No it's not in the slightest. On this mixer you have individual FX send levels for each channel, and if you wanted to bring them back in on a channel instead of into the FX return you can - which would make them act exactly the same as the Aux sends. Just here you've got the added benefit of being able to return them into the mixer as insert effects, so that you don't have to go messing around with other channels to use the effects.

allen & heath need some other midi solution besides the 3d to compete with the korg zeros, ecler evo 5, and probably the new pioneer board at some point

Well it doesn't have MIDI, so what would be the point in having an on/off switch for a feature you haven't got?

This mixer isn't designed to be used with Ableton/Traktor/Serato really - you could use it simply for the audio side, but it's not designed to be one of those kinds of tools. That's what the 92's for - I think it's good they've brought out a mixer without all of that stuff on it for those who don't need it (and therefore don't want to have to pay for features they're never gonna use).

I also don't think this mixer's really designed for club installations, most clubs will stick with 92 (and Pioneers, Ranes, etc) - but it looks like the perfect home-use mixer.

This should definately be the 800/700 killer.

The fact they have sorted out the send/rtn is awesome and USB integration will really boost it's appeal.

I think the non-inclusion of MIDI of sensible choice to keep the costs down, otherwise it would be too close to the 3d in terms of function and too close to the 92 in terms of cost.

If I hadn't just picked up my dream mixer for bugger all this would be the logical choice.

I've gotta be honest but if I hadn't of bought my 92 about 4 months ago, I would have bought this instead. Not as good as the 92 but I dont have a need for the extra bells and whistles on the 92.

Seriously, if A&H releases an updated version of the Xone:92 with X:FX support, I might buying it. Stu Cox changed my mind about the AUX/SEND method with an EFX...

They do have the Xone 2D and 1D, and the 2D is supposedly being updated before it's release (keep an eye out for the press release this month).

MIDI integration with a mixer is really overrated. Once you actually try to set one of these beasts up with Ableton, you'll realize this (ala the DJM-800).

They kind of had the right idea with the 3D (I owned one for a few months): Keep the Midi control separate from the mixer. Of course they are connected inside the chassis, but are essentially separate components in one box. Alas, a lack of audio channels and poor layout made me feel like it wasn't worth the cost and I sold it.

The Korgs and Evo look like they got a little closer, but in the end you'll STILL need more MIDI control externally for effects and clip/scene handling in ableton. Having MIDI control on the mixer (eq/level/etc) controls is simply not enough.

Someone just needs to copy Sasha's Maven controller/audio interface for proper ableton mixing.

Hmm, it looks like they are using a very similar setup to the Xone 92, which is actually quite nice...

Cue/mix knob, split cue, multiple cues can be selected at once... what more could you need?

So looking carefully at the picture... how does the sound card work? There's no way to select it for a channel input with the "phono/line" switch (which is how the Xone 3D works)...

I wonder if it just dumps down to the main mix bus... or maybe it's software selectable.

Yeah that makes sense looking at it... and if I had read the damn press release a little more closely it says it right in there

Wonder if there's a usb plug on the back too...
