If you're so incompetent that driving with headphones on will distract you from driving I can only wonder how you passed your driving test in the first place.

I can see where Spirit5 is coming from (for once). Quite a few people tend to analyse all of the musical structures and get "caught up" in the music when listening through headphones. I know because I have the same problem. When I'm listening to music, I'm usually unable to do anything else that requires concentration.

I can't see that being any different than having the car stereo really loud, though.

Then again I don't really understand why anyone would have headphones on while driving anyway. I've never even seen anyone do that.

That depends on how powerful the system is

I'm used to shitty quality when it comes to speakers, so maybe that's why I feel overwhelmed by all of the details I can hear when I put my headphones on.

Horn honking isn't to prevent accidents with drivers who may not realize an impending one, they only install it in cars for when Italians win the World Cup.

Ever heard of ambulances? police cars? fire-trucks? At least in the US...you have to pull to the side of the road...you get ticketed if you don't (sometimes jailed). And headphones typically block out more sound (good ones) than standard speakers. I listen to music somewhat loud in my car, but I can still hear when I need to pull to the side to let an ambulance, police car or fire truck through.

Distractions are pretty bad...a good driver is someone who can concentrate on the road. I am someone who does have a tendency to get easily distracted, so I just put in all the CDs I need in my 6-Cd changer in my car, and refuse to use a cell phone while driving unless I really have to...then I use it at a red light or pull over.

It isn't about being a good driver or a bad driver. It is about not doing something stupid when you shouldn't. Do you drive with headphones? No because cars have stereos and driving with headphones is a retarded idea.

Exactly, but I am sure there are stupid people who do drive with headphones on. I've seen one person do that before.

aside from the fact that it's illegal in some states, wearing headphones while you drive is one of the dumbest things you could possibly do. No one's a perfect driver, so quit pretending that you are.
