Re: House vs Trance?

Hey yall, I know that House is more popular than Trance here in Miami but could any one tell me why?
Also, some friends of mine believe that one can not become a popular DJ if you play Trance here and that you have to play House. I know thats not true but is there place here where Trance can or does thrive?
Im asking this because I want to become a Miami Trance DJ. |
Or, you could do this: If you want to make it big in Miami and you do somewhat enjoy house music (even if not as much as trance), you could do gigs where you start off with house and then shift to housy-trance, then eventually trance-trance, but the fact of the matter is that even if you are passionate about your music and your transitions are perfect, a lot of people (if they simply don't like trance) then don't be shocked when the dancefloor slowly clears up as you move to trance. Now if you don't care whether they dance or not, put whatever you want and make yourself happy at least. But if you want everyone to be kept on the floor there, then you gotta keep it house there. But of course, if you play a lot of their favorite house stuff and eventually they gain your trust as a good DJ, you can then squeeze in some trance stuff here and there in your sets and now that they already have your trust, they will approach it differently and it's likely that they will start liking your trance stuff too. Then eventually you can safely move to more trance and you'll finally get what you wanted and they'll be happy too. Now that's what you call a win-win situation.

Awesome advice bro I think Im going to try that because I love trance with my all. It is like this to me Trance>>>>House but I like house too don't get me wrong I just prefer trance. How hard is it do you think to get a spot as a resident dj at Nocturnal or Space...?

yeah minimal is blowing up all around the world. what I think is really helping with people opening up to new sounds is producers pushing the boundaries in the sound they typically produce. An example would be eric prydz, some of the sounds from his other aliases like cirez d and pryda have elements of many types of edm and you'll hear his music in sets of people who play different types of music and the likes.

As for minimal techno, I honestly cant stand it! It is such a mello & wierd type of music...then again to each their own and everyone is entitled to their opinion. My advice to you man is to stay true to yourself. If trance is what you feel in your blood then by all means that is what you spin! Im into the New York sound a lot, which is perdominatley Tribal. Down here in Miami, everyone and their grandmother is spinning Electro & Minimal. I love Electro, however its not my genre of choice. I still play in some tribal to carve my own identity. Just play what you love man & dont do it because thats what is going to get you a gig.
