"Live" refers to "live MIXING"...

Well, the guy who started the thread seemed to have another concept. I reckon, it makes a lot o sense, but nevertheless that's what a DJ does live: mix.

On the other hand, what I do find ridiculous is the "Tiesto in Concert" deal...

Yes but when it's already well established norm that someone being billed as performing "live" is specifically not just DJ'ing, then it's a load of horse shit to just get up there and mix records like any other DJ would.

When a rock band, let's say Linkin Park gives a concert they are performing live. When a solo artist/vocalist, let's say John Mayer gives a concert, and plays guitar, sings on stage he in fact is performing live. Then why the hell, when a DJ, who's "art" is mixing songs into one another, gets behind a booth and does this on the go without having any pre-recorded transitions isn't performing live?

explain. because i dont get it, but from my experience you cant.

honestly i didnt like ableton about a year ago, but 6 months ago, i changed and now i like it.

I have absolutely no problem what so ever with ppl who use Abelton, i myself will never use it though because it just dosent feel right to me. I would feel weird just looking at a laptop/computer when im djing, i like to play with all the buttons and faders and stuff on the mixer lol

Because while that's accurate in a semantic sense (the DJ is indeed doing something "live"), it's completely inaccurate when you look at how shows are actually billed, and will in general serve only to invite criticism.

DJ's can bill themselves as performing "live" all they want - but it isn't going to change the fact that people are going to expect far more than just DJ set from them, and will inevitably just be let down when they see just yet another chucklehead spinning records.

You can still do if you hook-up an analog mixer to your laptop
