I could never work at a restaurant. I can only put up with so much of another person's sense of entitlement...and there's enough of that in retail.

My first couple of retail jobs were at smaller stores where the owners/managers didn't subscribe the "customer is always right" rule. It was great!

Customer service translates to so many other jobs. Two very important things you learn are team work and communication skills. You can take that knowledge to just about any job.

I'm very grateful for all the retail experience I have. Surprisingly, they look for this in the nursing field. Actually no, it isn't that surprising at all.

I don't give a fuck about customer service. I'm just in it for the money because I'm broke as hell!

LOL...what money?? The best money in retail without being in a merchandising/managerial/head office/any kind of higher up position, is in jobs that pay commission. And you won't get much if you don't give a fuck about customer service.

There IS money to be had in the retail game, provided you know what you're doing and have the right attitude.

I am good at hiding how I feel.

Also, I know it's not great money, but I'm just starting out in life. I don't have many other options.

Maybe with everything else, but when it comes to work true colors bloom out faster. We don't expect you to know or understand since you're just " starting out" but take it from people who have been working longer than you : You need to stay positive not any of this fake smile shit.

In retail? Sure you will.

Unless you run on commission.

Also, don't sell yourself short! Your punctuation tells me you're not a complete dunce... look for a job doing data entry or something shitty like that. It's really straightforward and can often lead to other opportunities in smaller corporations.

If you've not done retail before though, definitely try it. I think that everybody should serve at least 1 year in retail when they are young... kind of like how Israel requires military service. Need to know how much jobs can suck before you realize what you really wanna do in life!

Everyone achieves high status differently. I don't think you need to or have to do retail in order to figure stuff out.

pffft imo

You can eke out a perfectly uh....decent...living working 40 hours a week in retail, serving people fake smiles and empty handshakes. As long as you do your job and don't let the fakeness slip, you'll be fine!
