whichever pathway it may choose, the signal is still continuous and not discretized. Besides, there may be 100s of different neural pathways for the signal to choose. If the selection is random, then the thing just comes down to plain vanilla probability.
Actually, the brain communicates in both analog and digital modes simultaneously.
