he's probably referring to the size of the sample population and it's impact on the reliability of the results (standard deviations, degrees, etc).

The variation of intelligence in a large pool of students is obviously not to be found in a smaller pool. Yes that would, but the difference in the score will decrease if you take larger and larger pools. The difference may be less for 10,000 and 1000 kids or even lesser for say 100,000 and 10,000 kids. But in these high income schools, I think the number of black kids are disproportionately less than the white kids, and hence you cannot make generalization from these results.

Neither have I. But I am guessing that the disproportionate size of the black and white kids pool is influencing the study results.
