Yea I dont produce with anyone else, I've loved trance since 14 and Im now 22 I'm still loving it more and more and been producing with Cubase for over a year and starting to like what I hear as I have all the time after work w/e's and no gf but I do go out with freinds to Bar's.

I swear I wont stop until I get a release and also hope it kick-starts something along side my main day-job career, I'll be getting some new decks soon (cdj's got stolen last year) and hoping to do some local house dj'ing then move on to DJ'ing Trance.

I dont really know too many people fully in to trance/house and would love to have a group of us going to the big clubs like I do occasionally but I would love to live nearer say London where theres always something on although Im under an hour away from Passion and Godskitchen clubs near Birmingham...

I've read Belgium is the place to go to live a life of EDM heaven, Europe in general just loves Trance/House without the boozey culture the U.K has....so like Holland/Germany and the Czech Rebublic I've experience amazing nights out.

I think the original question was a very good one! It's something I can certainly relate to, and obviously many of you do.. I too am "completely on my own" in terms of learning (other than my music buddies over the years) who have been amazing/patient! The internet has enabled us all to reach various forms of 'help' but nothing can beat actually sitting down with someone who knows what they are doing and can answer questions with your sequencer of choice in front of you...

I'm an 'active' learner (so my psychology teacher once told me) so I reckon I could have nailed years of trawling through websites, PDF documents and quicktime movies in the space of 10 minutes with a bit of hands-on guidance... Again, good topic, AD.

I was checking out this site that offers tutorials over skype herehttp://www.samplecraze.com/tutorial.php and was thinking if anyone wanted to we could use some remote desktop software with some sort of sound software and show eachother tricks.

I'm a Cubase user so would only really want to talk with similar users altho if someone was using the same synths that would be ok I suppose

Seriously... finding an EDM producer in the US of A is like finding a country musician in Holland. Finding Americans who listen to EDM is like searching for a four leaf clover.

I'm glad that I have the internet.

+10 on that!!

A lot of people I know who aren't into this stuff can't figure out the difference between DJing and Producing. It seems to be a totally foeign concept to them.

For some reason, I get a deep chuckle out of that (kind of like laughing at the little idiots); then I realize how ironic that is.

Hello all. I'm new to this forum (this is my first post). I'm just starting to get "into this stuff" (producing trance) and am not entirely clear on where the line is drawn between DJing and Producing. Can some please elaborate for me?

Correct me I'm wrong: The DJ's role is performance (playback or manipulation in real time), whereas the producer's role is composition (doing things in a studio be it remixing or original works). If this is true, what then do you call those superstars like Armin and Tiesto? I think I usually hear them referred to as DJ's but I'm sure spend plenty of time in a studio too so are they just taking on both roles? And what exactly are they doing on that stage during their big live shows? Are they synthesizing stuff on the spot? or just live-mixing stuff that they "produced" earlier?

I just invested in cubase because I am interested to make original EDM compositions (not remixes). Where can I take this? What would you label me? I know labels generally frowned upon, but I want to know the correct terms so I can find the right resources.

Thanks in advance.

-Rob

hey foil. hey you pretty much got it right dj basiclly mix songs together , and a producers create the songs.

armin and tiesto do both in the studio there produce there own songs then when the play out "live" the are playing there own songs and other peoples.

i remember when i first started to get into hiphop years ago i heard that producers would make beats with turntables. it blew my mind cuz i always wondered how the got so many sounds on the same pitch and the same speed. i figure they were using a bunch of turntables hahaha then i release the were using keyboard, drum machines, and samplers.

anyway foil good luck wth your productions and welcome to the board
