Religion is the Opium of the masses, as the Man said.
If it's true faith in a higher power that you seek, should you really have to have it all explained to you by some twat in a stupid collar (or equivalent ludicrous dress)? Shouldn't you be able to find and feel the power of the almighty without being indoctrinated?

and if you want to get into the science vs Christianity debate explain how they used the super gravity effect of a binary neutron star to help prove Christianity? a group called Reasons to Believe provides some of the most complex astrophysical reasons for God that we know of in 2002. They use every facet of all the sciences. There is no contradiction. Evolution is easy to disprove. To disprove a theory all you need is one counter example. an easy one is the woodpecker. It has the thickest skull to body size ratio in the world (thicker than elephants), cartiledge between beak and skull, a reinforced beak, a tongue with barbs, the barbs have glue, the tongue is attached in the front, the back of the throat has a glue solvent, between every peck (which is about 50 a second) it opens its eyes then reaims then closes them because the force would pop its eyes out if they were open. This is called a SYSTEM. If one part was missing the animal would die and not produce more. and thats just speciation. If you want to talk about some rather large gaps in a theory talk about slime in an ammoniated ocean in a deadly atmostphere under a deadly sun turning into organisms, then somehow they turned from asexual to sexual reproduction (the year is 2002 and still no working theory on how that happened), the smithsonian has FORTY FIVE MILLION fossils and not one is transitional. Darwin himself said he doesnt udnerstand how the eyeball could have evolved (thats a hell of a system with tons of "neccesary" part)...Dont use the science disproves God theory its stupid and weak. The fact is this. You either believe in God or you dont and no matter what "proof" you see you will disregard it if you dont want to believe. Science, logic, whatever, it probably wont change your mind. But heres some food for thought. If you are right and there is no God I will die and dissolve. If IM right, you burn in hell for eternity...something you might want to look into?

there is the same chance a Christian God will send me to hell than if a God exists that hated Religious people who thought they knew God, and sent them to hell.
by the way, if I'm going to hell, i'm going down with the ship...most people are not Christian. in fact, if any major religion was true, most of the world is fucked.
and just because macro-evolution is someday misproven DOES NOT mean Christianity is correct. why wouldn't Buddism be correct?
why is it so hard to realize that humans do not yet know why we are here???? we are an insignificant arrangement of molecules in an INCREDIBLY vast universe.

Wow. You can either have a thought in your conciousness of four words "I Believe In God" or not. God is a word. In order to believe in something, you have to know what you are believing...
What kind of "God" do you believe in? Pick the right God know, or else you are going to hell. You can't just say "Any God..." that's stupid. That's like picking a baseball team to win the world series and saying "Any of them..." You can't do it.
Besides, I find it much easier to believe complex systems like the woodpecker and an eyeball evolved than the mindblowing stupidity of creation.
"Yeah...the whole universe was created for Earth's inhabitants, who live in a time-span of practically nothing when it comes to the Universe's existance. And we are nothing but a speck compared to the rest of the Universe. And we believe all of this because of a flawed book that can be interpreted in several different ways, even though tons of other books like it have been made that say totally different things..."
I say, let's figure existance out, and not just take the easy, ignorant way out.

this is gonna be fun. Part of the whole thing is that you believe that there is a GOD and if you want to nit-pick about the defnition of what is a God when it has been pretty clearly defined over the past 6 thousand years or so dont post on a do you believe in God fourm because thats like posting into a sub atomic particle forum and saying I dont believe in what you guys do becuase I dont know anything about it. so believe in god, believe that you do wrong, ask forgiveness. If you think God is this crotchety old man sitting up there with a sharpened sword waiting for an illiterate, ignorant heathen whos never heard the word of God to die you are ignorant.

People use evolution to disprove creationist religions (all of them) the questions wasnt do you believe in the Christian God, it was GOD in general and evolution is the big ball buster people try to use and its pathetic. Why not buddhism indeed.

refer to the if you dont know what God is dont post on a GOD topic. and EVERYTHING and every thought is a word. Words are how people communicate. If there were no words there would be no thought. And dont try to say animals think and they dont talk because they definitely have communications and its called a "gutteral" language much like what the oriental languages are. Its the sound which forms the word.
| quote: | | Besides, I find it much easier to believe complex systems like the woodpecker and an eyeball evolved than the mindblowing stupidity of creation. |
you obviously missed the point of that story. its a SYSTEM which means it all has to be there at once. evolution doesnt just throw a complete system in. Talk about stupidity on several levels there...
| quote: | | Yeah...the whole universe was created for Earth's inhabitants, who live in a time-span of practically nothing when it comes to the Universe's existance. |
*looks at the sky wondering where that came from* who said that? I didnt. and if you want to get into that point we are at the PERFECT point right now to view the universe. there is a thing called spaceial dynamics which is where the farther the objects spread apart the faster they travel away. before we would have been blocked in by too much light from stars to see anything. In a few mil we wont be able to see anything. In our own galaxy we are between the spiral arms so we can see out. Our solar system doesnt bob up and down like the others do so we have an always unobstructedview. There are no dust clusters near us, we are as far away from the globulous center as possible...We ARE in the perfect spot and time to view the universe.
| quote: | | believe all of this because of a flawed book that can be interpreted in several different ways |
Flawed? thats interesting. The common held belief is that the Bible is infalliable. So if there is a flaw then the Bible is untrue... I think the couple billion christians mightve heard about that one...youll need to actually find a flaw before you start spewing out random denunciations. Sorry

yes. words are very, very powerful. For people, who are christian, the word God should mean a lot.
The thing is that words bind associations into a form, which is needed to communicate. Without words, things would still exist, but the words binds them in a definition..

well, maybe god is a little different for all of us. I mean, since this isn't a threat about 'do you believe in Christianity', but rather a thread about 'god' itself. To me, maybe God is a bearded old man sitting on a mountain (not really), to someone else, it might be something completely different. The thing is that we might have to define god for ourselves. As I mentioned, I do not believe in God, but just the fact that I know that there might be one is quite comforting.
Think -and i mean really think- about it. If you believe that there is no god, death is the end. Scary, methinks.
If you do not believe in God, what motivation do you have to do 'good' in life? I mean, why would you care how your life was, once you are dead. Seriously, you might consider living it to the max and screwing people left and right, just to get the most fun out of life?!?

it's not scary at all. like getting in a coma and never waking up.

that's what animals do.
