do you realize there is abosolutely no difference between these two "groups" of people? I forget which but ligher skinned black people were called one and darker skinned people another when colonizers arrived. So in say my case my sister would belong to one group and me another which is just craziness.

They were two different tribes at first, that were identified by Belgium when they colonized it. They established a tutsi aristocracy, and after they gained independence, that all changed. The hutu and tutsi were more a social identification, than a tribe at this point.

In my opinion, this genocide is the most frightening, by far. More so than any other, even more than the holocaust.

to my understanding they became two tribes because of the Belgian colonizers and since there is so much inter-marriage they are essential the same people anyway. They aren't as different as other tribes in Africa which literally look different from one another and speak completly different languages...all in all those people are hot messes.
