i just have a real beef with people who sit at home and bag out a dj, yet the havent seen them live...
different story if they went to a gig and hated it

i'm sure anyone who would criticise him would have been to a gig of his before, but it's true that if you're criticising him for this year, and havn't seen him live this year, it's hard to call him a bad DJ, since to really appreciate, or criticise a DJ you have to see them in their natural environment (live/in a club etc)... Radio shows are good and well, but it's the atmosphere the DJ creates that really makes them special... and armin pwns

i dont think anyone thinks armin is shit, he is still a very good dj just not number 1 imo. if he was ever going to be number 1 it should have been in 2004 when he certainly was extremely good, if not the best.
asot has gone stale and productions were never his strong point (he does have one or two monsters though). he was always first and foremost a dj and this is still what he does best but he has fallen from the top imo
EDIT:
didnt see this b4:

like the young man () said, this is why armin is still a good dj

I think his DJing is top-notch (based on seeing him at the white party): even if asot's become a little stale, it still does a lot for the scene, and i mean, how could anyone keep a 2-hour weekly radio show fresh, and banging every week? you'd have to assume that it's the amount or quality of music he's receiving that would make asot go down-hill...
perhaps since asot's a studio-mix too...?
do you think there's any difference compared to his live sets cookie (if you listen to them)? just out of interest...
as i said above tho, i still definitly think pvd deserves number one spot for skill alone
but hey, just a n00bs opinion

nice to see diggers in the top 3, oakie somehow creeping back, sasha making the top 5 and villalobs in the top 50.

lol gg posting right when i make my edit
i agree it would be hard to keep a weekly show from going stale. also agree that the quality of music that he receives plays a big part as well but i think there is alot of good new trance out there but he doesnt play much of it. either because he doesnt like it or it doesnt fit in his style which is fine. its just my opinion.
i do listen to his sets every now and again to see what kinda stuff he is playing and although they are slightly better than what he plays in asot they still tend to sound generic. ie i could hear the same thing being done by a multitude of djs.
having said that if i was actually there when a set was recorded i would think much more highly of it, because as you say he is an owner at creating that atmosphere. TT06 for example i didnt think was that great music wise but at the time i was having a great time because of the atmosphere.

see, i think completely the opposite - ASOT has started pulling me in bigtime after years of not doing anything for me so it's obviously all based on opinion and personal preference. on top of that, i reckon it's clear that the DJ Mag Top 100 is a total popularity contest as opposed to anything even remotely credible... i mean tiesto back up to 2nd place? gimmieafuckenbreak.
still... good to see armin's finally reached #1 position..

yeah great to see Armin making number 1, totally love him. I just can see why PVD can be #1. Never seen Tiesto play or anything so hard to comment really lol... but im a bit surprised he is before PVD.
