Sasha & Digweed & Big black cox will live on as legends for a LONG time.

They've all done such amazing things for the "Scene", Sasha & Digweed have had excellent years this year, although I must say Digweed's radio show has been a total snore all year, but I also realize that it's his chance to play a lot of the whack tunes he wouldn't dare play out at a club/festival etc.

They should give Sasha a radio show, just listen to him smoking for an hour while playing some wacked out shit no one else has, hahaha.

Oh and I don't know why you guys think Armin deserved this so much, Louis was right, "It makes sense" but that doesn't mean Armin has contributed the most to the scene this year, it just means he's succeeded in smothering all of his fanbase in another year of fairy-unicorn-rainbow melodies, and I'm not talking about his DJing. If the lot of you Armin fans truly voted for who you thought the best DJ was and not "the DJ that plays his own tracks that I like" then I think there would have been a different result, I detest trance but at the same time I know there are DJs more capable than Armin.

And I'm seriously asking, why is Armin so popular, why do you all love him so much? Not to be a dick, really, I just want to know.

Even when I was really into trance, I found him really rather boring, and I've seen him 3 times so it's not like I'm talking from inexperience.

Neo Hacker?
Layloula?
Other Armin fans?

I just can't get my head around understanding the epic devotion to this guy above the others, I find him mediocre at best even in comparison to the likes of Ferry + Tiesto + PvD, who've all truly done amazing things in the trance scene, but to me Armin hasn't done anything that compares to their works, so what's the deal with him really?

I no comprende.

listen thats just your opinion if hes been voted #1 theres something to it.

For me his trance sets are the best comparing him to other trance heavyweights.

He has rarely disappointed me live and his state of trance sets have been really good, he got his music out there in 40 countries now. He probably reaches more trough his online sets then any other trance dj.

In person he has energy and live his sets brought me places that ive never been.

his trance is the trance I like. im not comparing him to any other hosue or progressif dj since for me that type of music brings me to other places ive never been.

now before i get flammed I d like to state thats just my opinion.

Now im going to put me flame suit on

Nah I'm not going to flame, there's no point.

But you've basically just told me that he's popular therefore you like his music (And it takes you places).

Saying "it's the best imo" isn't saying why its the best, which is what I want to know, obviously music is subjective and what goes in one person's ear and sounds good can go into the person right next to him's and it can sound like crap.

BUT

Every Armin fan can tell me how much they love him, and how much SO MANY people love him, but they can never be more specific than that. Marcus will say "he puts on a show" which is a DJs job in the first place, they are usually the center of the party. And others will say "He has incredible energy and a great vibe!" Which to me is absolute nonsense, 1 person doesn't give out a vibe good enough to keep thousands of people in the same room stuck shoulder to shoulder with eachother for 5 hours, there clearly IS something you all find so amazing about him but so far no one has been able to tell me wtf it is.

Are you telling me it's because he consistantly plays the stuff you want to hear at every show? Doesn't that get boring? Knowing all the tracks and when they'll come? I remember how predictable trance sets used to be, one of the reasons I no longer have much interest in the genre.

I can go see a rock band if I want to hear all of their songs played in some sort of "slightly" mixed up but predictable order, the advantage DJs have over rock stars is that they have cases full of music that isn't theirs that they can turn into something very creative and exciting, but I've never been able to understand how people find Armin exciting, and it's not because I don't like his music that I'm saying that, I don't like Sven Vath either but I understand what it is about him and his music that gets people buzzing.

I didnt say since hes popular therefore I like him thats non sense your putting words in my mouth.

Im saying if hes #1 there must be a reason and I ve tried explain what those reasons are for me im not talking about anyone else here.

He does bring vibe to a party and excitement he does have more energy and his shows reflect that. his music reflects that to

point is I just like the Trance he spins no hes not the best producer hes a very good dj who knows how to read the crowd.

I actually compleely agree with alex on this one.

Armin really was never stood out for me. Even when trance was huge and everyone could have a killer set due to the amount of quality trance tracks, he still did not compare to Tiesto and ferry.

People say "well he deserved it for all the work he did in the past 7 years for trance". Yeah he was a part of it but really what did he do?

If were talking about what trance has become, no one deserves it more than Ferry corsten. He pretty much created the uplifting / epic sound back in 98/99. (not saying there were not a lot of others but he comes to mind most for the genre). Just look at armins ASOT Classic trance cd or whatever. 60% of them are Corstens tracks. Yet ferry is always the one people forget compared to the other big 3.

Maybe if he starts doing big concerts like tijs + armin he will eventually get it one day! Kind of sad to say.

+ 1

The only reason why i lost interest in Armin is that his live sets are EXACTLY like his ASOTs, you go in there and you can ID 98% of the songs he's using, on top of that their all the newest productions from the "big guns" in trance and hardly finds hidden titles,

on the other hand

DarV as a good point, if he's number 1 there must be a reason, true he brings energy, my guess he's the most popular DJ because he's the one that is the "king of trance" now, like Tiesto used to be, Okie before him, etc... Also Armin is a smart guy, he really knows how to market himself really well with his Armada Nights, his ASOTs (let's face it, the most popular radio show in EDM), etc to really promote himself, so like Louis said, and not saying "he deserves" it as a DJ, but it makes sense, and he has tried really hard and my take is people recognize that

I have to agree that his ASOT helped him get to the spot hes at know,
also I agree with the fact that his live sets are similar to his radio sets and agree that could have a negative impact since some people know the songs hes playing, but also keep in mind that some people like to recognize songs in sets and to them thats what makes it a good set.

Ferry in my opinion always puts his own old productions, not to say that that they re not good but after seeing ferry 6 times in my life, he always seems to play his classics at the end of his set.

thats his trade signature kinda like PVD

Armin does bring he vibe kinda like tiesto did back in the days.

I think 84th answered the question well , I have seen AVB twice now and both times I was at a total loss for why this guy is #1....

I'm a big fan of Tiesto and his Sunrise 5 and 6 so i'm not against trance at all , but when people say he is #1 because he "takes them places" then that tells me being #1 is all about what the crowd get's out of his music instead of actual talent.

Based on me being a witness to his live performance i don't see how he is #1 at all on any technical level , I have seen other DJs such as bad boy bill , roger sanchez , john digweed , scumfrog and offer nissim bring alot more talent and advanced techniques to their sets that AVB never does.

So I guess all I can get from this rating is that it's based on marketing , tracklisting , and being a crowd favorite.

Everything else about being a DJ seems to take a backseat for this ranking system because honest the last time I heard AVB his breakdowns and tempo sounded terrible.
