hmm.. we did say that you could get a mac to run "any" windows program.

but this thread is about tweaks for a mac, so dont tell the guy "you shoulda bought something else" whats done is done.. tell em what software to get to do the best for him.

As we said, get copies of VMWare Fusion Trial and Parallels Trial (both freely available from their websites, link provided) and test em out to see which one suits your needs. And which one can handle the software you want to run better.

I hope you can get your mac performing well, they can be a really good comp when you have the right stuff on em.

Enjoy

If he really wants a windows experience, install bootcamp, and install Windows on it. Than when you boot up you have an instant windows machine! I have my MacPro set up like that and it runs smooth. No issues what so ever.

Hate to break the news to you, but have you heard of Microsoft WHQL? Pretty much every PC sold through a major OEM has undergone not only internal hardware testing, but WHQL certification through Microsoft.

but I gave up on that idea because I got sick of tweaking with computer hardware

Put together a proper machine, you don't have to "tweak" it. Put together a clusterf*ck and you'll be screwing with it for eternity.

You're right. Most PCs are upgradeable

You've never bought a mac apparently.

Buy a dell/HP/etc, and you have to re-install it because they put so much S*IT on there that it's unusable out of the box.

And building your own machine always results in some hassle. ALWAYS. Some driver doesn't like another piece of hardware, this or that doesn't work, etc. I've been doing this for a LONG time...

And when I need a new machine, I'll just buy a new one and sell my iMac for 50% of the price I paid for it new 3 years ago. Try that with a PC.

Not if you buy from their small business product line rather than home (consumer sucker) product line. Heck, you can even still get preinstalled Windows XP from the small biz lines, avoiding the vista nightmare all together.

I see why you like Mac's so much then.

Since this looks like it is turning into a Mac vs. PC thread, I'll save you all the trouble and tell you how it ends... All computers have problems, different people need different things from a computer, and different computers provide different services/problems.
The rest is totally up to you. There is no better brand, just a brand that is better for you.
Some people need Macs, and some need PCs... now what was the original question?

(FTR: I'm a pc guy, but I use a Mac at work with no problems. It's good at what it does, and both serve me well.)

Having recently switched to a new MPB after years of Dells (and before that a Performa 6115 and LC2), I gotta say I love it. That being said, I still use my 5 yr. old maxed out Dell laptop for certain things that just work better on a PC than a Mac. It's the best of both worlds. I haven't run Boot Camp et.al to this point bc I haven't had to, but I definitely think having Windows around in some form is helpful for certain things.

Edit: Woody, I bought AHP today. This program is insane! For 30 bucks it's worth the upgrade over Audacity, that's for sure!
