They (and every other record store) have been giving out what you consider 'false dates' for the last few months because the release date has changed constantly with this.
I can only assume they've set 1st January 2008 as a way of saying "it's early next year", considering that Amato have gone down and RebelOne have had to go to another distribution company.

'Scamming' people by changing a release date? How are they gaining anything from that?

I wasn't saying they're scamming anyone by putting up those dates, but the website has a history of making sketchy mp3s into acetates, listing records that are in stock + taking your money when they're really out of stock and not refunding it. The list goes on, just check the thread.
