The problem, I find, is the automatic disapproval of those who show an enthusiasm for Trance -- it either takes the form of snobby remarks or more blatant abuse. Oddly enough, it is rare to see Trance fans attack fans of other genres -- the fans of the other genres will say it is because those Trance fans are 'noobs' or they still don't 'know' electronica, etc.

Many times I read shit on here and I wonder where the hostility comes from... it's almost as if the people that were once avid Trance fans have become disgusted with what they hear produced today and their gut instinct is to downplay any praise given -- simply because the 'old' stuff was so much better to them. My tastes in EDM are almost as varied now as they were years ago -- I'm equally at home at a House party as I am at a Trance or Techno one -- it's nice to have variety and not feel the need to downplay one genre simply because your personal preference is for another. After all, isn't that what we used to all bitch about when the HipHop/Rockers/etc. called all our music 'Techno' or just repetitive noise? Same principle applies - listen to what you like and respect the choices of others.

Well, it's true. Trance is a gateway genre, and has been for the past 10 years. That means a large portion of trance listeners are first-timers, and aren't even likely to know what broken beat, detroit techno, IDM, acid, dubstep, grime etc. are. They've got this whole fluffy, cuddly "ignorance is bliss" thing going, which makes me wanna puke.

Trance was not a gateway genre for me... when it comes to electronic music, I first discovered ambient, then some video game music which had many genre influences, and then I found trance at mp3.com before it became too commercialized. I discovered trance thanks to "Trance[]Control" -- one of those groups who I still like to listen to even after everything I've learned about EDM (personally).

Well certainly it's not exactly like that... I mean people tend to get into the different stuff (generally deeper) after listening to electronic music for a while. Perhaps trance/house/hardstyle are gateway genres... but It's certainly different to religion or anything else.

Although I'll defenitly say hardstyle is the perfect example of a gateway genre... no ones gonna listen to that forever.

I've been noticing that many people here who started with trance are now enjoying hardstyle a fair bit. But then again, those people are usually fans of 'Anthem' and all this crap so it doesn't really surprise me.

yes, this is the second trance affect your life thread. the first one did not go too well. It looks like this love the world thing is just a normal phase that everyone goes through. I started spinning because of trance music, althought I have listen to other genre before. Trance was the first that inspired me to start seeking a career in music. Something I should have done along time ago.
