You do know that when Bush called Iran axis of evil, that was enough to end all cooperation between Iran and the US. In fact, at the time, the Reformists were trying to open up ties. Well, that phrase ended it for Iranian Reformist administration. The people were so enraged, they voted for the most conservative candidate running for president, admadinijad.
Point is, in their view, why should they help the US? The US labelled them the "axis of evil". Iranian's nationalism is the backbone of the society, as if the ancient Persian Empire was just yesterday. Think about if it if your country wasn't a superpower, and the superpower of the world just labelled your country evil. Would you want your leadership helping them? Hell no, they are self-professed enemies of the US.
