But, you're right, Will, displays of art in general (such as films and concerts) are supposed to be social events. I usually go to the cinema with my friends (or girlfriend).
However, my girlfriend is the only person I know who likes twisted European cinema so, whenever she's busy, I end up going on my own

I've only gone to the theater alone just once, and that was for Shaun of the Dead. I agree that going to the movies with people is better, but I will also agree that theres nothing wrong with going alone. In fact, going solo will guarantee your utmost attention, and you'll probably enjoy the movie more/get more out of the experience.

There always seems to be at least on of these:
Some idiot parent bringing a child into an adult movies
The guy that cant stop going to the bathroom but sits in the middle.
someone kicking the back of my chair
a loud group
the guy that has to text in the movie or check their phone.
Cant people sit still for 2 hours?

i hate that so much. i saw some parent bring what had to 'of been a 7-9 year old into Resident Evil: Apocolypse. while the child was quiet for most of the movie, i was still rather shocked/distracted.
i also think that the beginning part of the movie is more of a social event too....you know, before the previews come on, when you get there and just sit and talk and eat popcorn with friends. its nice, you know?
even during the previews, when one is over, it's nice to lean over and say "that looks good" or "fuck that".

i think clubs are a little different because you're actively walking/dancing/drinking around the place. so i think going to one of them alone is all right, because you can always interract w/ people there (those you don't know). whereas a movie theatre, its not like you can randomly walk around the studio and say things to people.

Interacting at a club is always one of the main attractions of a club. Being quiet and watching a movie without interacting is the main attraction at a movie theatre.

I don't think most people go to interact, most go to dance their pants off.

Fuck you extroverted bastards. Sure, it's OK to go with friends if they want to tag along, but going alone is completely fine. I went to watch Knocked Up with a girl and the only interaction we had was turning to each other and laughing or smiling when something funny popped up.
that's still some kind of social interaction...isn't it?

We did NOT talk.
i can't stand people that talk during a movie...it's distracting as hell.
like i said before, i think part of the whole movie going experience is afterwards when you're leaving w/ the people you went with and have some kind of discussion about the film itself.

If you think it's sad/pathetic/weird to go to the movies alone, then I don't like you. You're probably one of those people who think someone is sad/depressed if they're with you and not talking. "Why are you so quiet? Is something wrong?" I hate people who try to do that shit to me. Don't try to turn me into a sympathy case, retard. I'm not quiet, I am very fucking loud and clear when I do talk. I just don't talk a lot to STUPID people.
i guess i don't think it's sad/pathetic/weird....its just i see movie going as a social experience...not something to do by your own.
off topic: i agree with you, that i can't stand when i'm with someone and if i'm not talking then its automatically, "omg what's wrong?" comfortable silence is a golden thing in life, imo.

yes, and the way they want to take their pants off is to grind them against someone else's ass until they fall off.

everyone's different. but what you said before kind of makes it sound like you think if people go to the movies together, its sad/weird/pathetic.
