Nokia 3310

- really cheap
- really strong, you could throw it from a huge height and it'd keep working
- has contact list
- can make calls
- can make sms's

Honestly, phone technology could've stalled there, almost everything they added since then has been unnecessary crap. I'm an idiot for having purchased a "better" phone, with the ability of playing mp3s, taking photos and browsing to the internet, when I use my mp3 player, my digital camera and my laptop for those purposes.

Sorry for the unhelpful post, my rant is over.

It only received moderate use and I intentionally didn't use any IM services or the internet. The charge lasted for over a week. What was even more impressive to me was that after it started to tell me that the battery was dying the phone still didn't die for another day or two. All of my other phones that I've had would have died within hours (Samsung, Motorola). I like how my IM, email and text messages are set up on it. You can't beat their push technology. I love that it corrects spelling and punctuation. It already has a large standard list that you can add to. It's nice not having to add an apostrophe to something like "haven't"...it does it for me. Or, I can have it set up that if I typed "punc" it will spell out punctuation. I did install an IM service that has MSN, AOL and Yahoo. I only use MSN, and it looks identical to it with all of the standard MSN emoticons. I tweaked the internet and everything looks perfect on the screen. I have no problem seeing the screen outside. The Curve is also extremely light and fits perfectly in my hand. It's not the best phone in the world, but it will suffice for now.

the spelling thing happens on the touch and the tilt also. i have an older HTC phone and loaded the newest windows mobile version and it does the same thing. infact windows mobile has an up on even that. it will suggest a WHOLE PHRASES if its a phrase you use often enough.

with regards to IM there are tons of apps out there for the windows mobile devices that do all the services. just depends on what you like.

with regards to battery life, i will agree that BBs have pretty good battery life but not as phenomenal as most would say. with heavy use they are only 1day longer usage in my experience compared to a wm device.

and cost. the 8830 imho is unnecessarily expensive for a small upgrade to the models below it from a consumer pov. from a business side there is only a $45 difference if you are in the 400 line ball park. $99 for 8703e and $139 for the 8830

I just like that it applies to everything...IM's, text and emails. Sometimes I'm busy or in a hurry and it's nice being able to type icywil and have it change to I'll call you when I leave. I'm not in love with my phone, but I do like it enough to stay with it for a while.

same thing applies to a good amount of windows mobile apps but i can agree that its not very consistent in that respect.

im also in the market for a new phone and cant decide either..

last week i wanted a T-mobile shadow and as i have done more and more research i decided i should move up to a blackberry pearl, then curve, then wing... now thinking if i do wing then why not get it with the 3g so im thinking the motorola Q and now i think ive topped out wanting the tilt...

but as noikeee mentioned earlier about unnecessarliy getting the "better" phone makes me worried about making a jump into the smart phone world..

i have a piddily poo flip phone now with t-mobile and my contract ended 11 months ago but never knew it..

i realize these companies make their money on their service plans and not the phones so the more features you have then the more they can charge you for services and with these 2 year contracts thats easy money for them....

insights, suggestions, recommendations on phones and/ plans?? and now i think im at the point to let my future plan decide my phone and not the other way around...

i was unaware until a few days ago, that ATT has the WORST data plans available. they are super expensive and on top of it require certain plans with certain phones. horrible imho.

the HTC TyTn II (aka ATT Tilt) is a great phone with 3g and lots of connectivity options. it also is windows mobile 6 pro based instead of wm6 standard based like the shadow. the difference you ask?

go use the shadow and then hop on the wing. there are MANY MANY differences, that for myself, are things i refuse to live without. the functionality is so much different from standard to professional that i cant go to the smartphone/standard edition.

honestly, it doesnt matter what you get, there will be something bigger and better out within 1 year. especially from HTC (the manufacturer of the ATT Tilt, 8525, 8125, Tmo Mda, Tmo Wing, Tmo SDA, Tmo Dash, Verizon 6700, Sprint HTC mogul, Sprint PPC6700) you can always expect a new phone that trumps what you have within 1 year.

to figure out which windows mobile based device to get go to the store and use them. i have a really hard time using the smartphone edition (aka standard edition) based phones as opposed to the pocket pc phone edition (aka professional edition) because they totally change the interface. the number of options available to you and the way things are done are also fundamentally accessed and changed differently. i also LOVE the touch screen. its quite convenient.
