Right, but your beef is with the federal government, which only accounts for about 20-25% of GNP.

Something like 70% of GNP is still accounted for by private consumption.

Right, I and most other libertarians have no problem with state governments running things like schools, emergency services, etc. I support public education, public roads, libraries, all that good stuff.

Paul is such a radical that it seems obvious most of his agenda will never make it through congress. The government is relentless in it's growth...It's tentacles reach into so many areas of the economy that it would be impossible make a dramatic reduction anywhere. The best we can hope for under a Paul administration is that he gets a few good wacks at the monster with a baseball bat...maybe taking the budget down from $3 trillion to $2.5 trillion, and streamlining things across the board...allowing for more openness, accountability, and oversight to the major government institutions. Even with an 8 year term, nothing would be abolished. The IRS and federal reserve would still be around...Those institutions are firmly entrenched in our economy and will never disappear..

Still, he would be fighting the good fight...He would stand for personal liberty against a congress that tries to erode it...and he would save hundreds of billions in tax money by reducing our military presence in 70 countries overseas, and bringing the troops home from Iraq. We could have a rock solid border defended by US military and pay down our debt with the extra savings. And all of our civil liberties will be protected by his veto pen.

This is what I feared would happen. These crazy CTers are giving the campaign a bad name.

Nevada Brothel Owner Pimps for Ron Paul
RGJ.com | Anjeanette Damon | November 20, 2007 09:47 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Campaigning through Northern Nevada today, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul picked up the enthusiastic support of Nevada brothel owner Dennis Hof.

After sitting through a 20-minute press conference with Paul, Hof vowed to put up a collection box outside the door of his Moonlight Bunny Ranch brothel to take up contributions for the candidate who he says, "Makes a lot of sense, doesn't he?"

"I'll do it today," he said. "I'll get all the Bunnies together and we can raise him some money. I'll put up a collection box outside the door. They can drop in $1 dollar, $5 dollar contributions. What a great way for the working girls to support Ron Paul. It's just the right thing to do."

Paul's campaign was surprised to see Hof, flanked by two prostitutes, emerge from a limousine outside of Lawlor Events Center this morning. They arrived with MSNBC journalist Tucker Carlson, who has been traveling with Paul for a piece he's writing for the New Republic.

this has become a very interesting thread.

i support some of ron pauls ideas, but seriously, when it comes to the budget we dont need a ron paul or any fucking politician. what we need is a group of accountants that review the budget and ask "wtf is this?" questions. we need accountability within the budgeting system that forces the companies doing the work to prove and show progress. anyone ever seen the movie "Dave"? yeah its some sappy movie but there is a very good point to the movie. we probably do have programs that are very stupid and do nothing yet we keep paying on them. this is fundamental stuff not political stuff.

RP has by far the simplest platform there is. Follow the constitution to the letter and the non-interventionism of the early republic. Notice how he has a simple answer for many things and even cite the founding fathers of constitution, and it's real shit, he's not pulling out of his arse, unlike what usually happens in politics... They pull shit out of the arse and throw it us, hoping we'll open our mouths and catch it. *cough*hillaryguiliani*cough* By the way, Hillary and Guliani are the the superstars of this election and everyone else is the underdog.

I don't know how many times I have to tell you that he is an isolationist, even if he himself does not realize it. Cutting US diplomatic and security linkages with the international community and engaging in protectionism (free trade without free trade agreements monitored by a governing body has never existed and can't because it is a zero-sum game) is about as isolationist as you can get.

And following the Constitution to the letter conveniently leaves out any development in political thought that has occured over the past 250 years.

So say the mainstream media, but neither one will get their party's nomination. Especially not Rudy, with the scandals that have broken this week (FoxNews paying off a woman from testifying against Rudy's second-in-command because it will "hurt the Giuliani campaign"? That's going to have political ramifications for sure).

I wanna know too. Zero-sum games are winner/loser exchanges, as in a casino game of black jack. Trade is called trade for a reason. It's an exchange of value. There is no zero-sum. But it also depends on the asset class. Because stocks can be zero-sum game.
