Yes, they might have a high murder ratio, but many of those murders are related to gang and drug trafficking, majority of which are in the north of the country. There are quite a few good stories out there that show the epedemic of Mexico's gang/drug issues and how the drugs are being smuggled into the US.
Just because the country overall has a high murder ratio doesn't mean that then entire country does.
Just like if you took the murder ratio of Jane & Finch and stated you shouldn't go to Rosedale or something like that because the murder ratio of Toronto is too high (which it is :P)
I was bored, and decided to look at Toronto. If you figure we have 79 murders so far and Toronto's population is approx. 2,500,000.
Average out the year and we should reach approx. 85 murders.
That gives us a ratio of 0.034 Murders/1,000 people.
Toronto would be ranked #27 in the world in between India and Yemen...
