that's so true
eating a lot right before heading to bed can keep you awake for a while

yes, don't eat too much and get on a regular exercise program (or you'll just get fat like many other TAs anyways). Also, being on a computer is the worse thing, esp if it's in your bedroom. Wind down your evening watching tv, no phone calls, internet and eating sugary foods, chocolate, stuff that has caffeine.

if u can't fall asleep after 20-25min according to the experts do not keep laying there obsessing over the fact that you can't fall asleep, that's the worse thing u can do...the best thing is to get out of bed and do something like; read a book and drink a glass of warm milk..it will help put you into a sleeping mode...watching tv is a not such a good idea according to the experts...also, if you are familiar with relaxation exercises those can help a lot too....and try to get up at or around the same time every day...even if the previous night you fell asleep really late, try to get up in the morning as you normally would...also avoid eating really big meals right before bed and make sure not to exercise right before bed either..the adrenaline we get from exercising before or close to bed time doesn't help geting ourselves into a sleeping mode...try to exercise earlier in the day....oh and drinkin alcohol before bed will definitely disturb your sleeping pattern even if it might seem to help you fall asleep easier
if you wanna have a snack before bed any type of berries are really good for that as well

i've been having some serious insomnia as of late, which my DR. tells me is b/c of a medical condition i have. what ever u do, don't let your doctor precribe you halcion... it is not fun. i'm still feeling shitty from having to take it a month ago. there's been times were i've been up for 3 or 4 days...

a co worker suggested going to to a natural foods store, and gettin organic apple cider vinegar, honey ( not the billy bee kind), and adding hot but not boiling water to that, and drinking it about a half hour before u hit the hay.

Isn't there a lot of sugar in both those ingredients? Don't think that would do well for somebody who cannot sleep.

things got pretty tweaky by that point. which is about when my body gave out on me. its not easy working in a kitchen with no sleep for a few days.

well if you're finding that whatever your doctor has suggested for far isn't working..get a second opinion...go see someone else...do some research on your medical condition and how it's related to insomnia...you might come accross some useful info on it that your doctor might not even think of (or even know about). Besides for doctors it's easiest to just put you on some medication with horrible side effect as yours did. I would look into this much further if i were you.
