This year has been great. I kept an open mind to new genres of EDM and it has changed what I listen to and spin completely. I went from just listening to trance and electro, to now playing out mostly progressive house, tech house, techno and minimal. I had the pleasure of seeing a few acts but not getting to see many. Some of my favorite djs/producers i had the opportunity of seeing this year were Prydz, Sasha, Cox.

Some of my favorite tracks of the year(mostly recent ones):

Rui Da Silva-Escaping My Mind(Matt Tolfrey & Inxec mix)
Sasha-Park It In The Shade(Original)
Pryda-Ironman(Original)
Cirez D-Tigerstyle(Original)
Plan Tec-Espias Psiquicos(Jonas Koop Psiquic Mix)
Martin Buttrich-Hunter(Original)
Popof-My Toyz(Original)
Deadmau5-Jaded(Original)
Thomas Bronzwaer-Constellation(John O'Callaghan Mix)
Sebastien Leger-Bad Clock(Original)
Arno cost & Arias-Magenta(Original)
Pryda-Storm(Original Mix)
Guy J-Agent Blue(Original)
James Zabiela-Phaser Fire(Original)
System 7-Space Bird(Dubfire Mix)
Dubfire-Cage(Original)
Robytek-Sun(Original)
Dave 202-Torrent(Original)
Purple Code-The Rising(Original)
Pig & Dan-Sly Detector(Original)
Sasha-Coma(Original)
Guy Gerber & Chaim-Myspace(Original)
James Zabiela-Human(Original)
Kaliber-A1(Original)
Christian Smith, John Sellway-Transit Time(Dubfire Mix)

My favorite track of the year though has to be Pryda-Ironman(Original)

Its nothing unique or 5 stars in terms of production but for some reason its the one song I do not get tired of hearing.

Hopefully next year I get to see Digweed, Zabiela, Lawler and Howells.

God. Music's been all over the place for me this year. Of course, a large part of it is just due to what I listen to for reviews, but even the stuff I listened to on the side was erratic. I think the best way I can sum it all up is with this cliche:

"The more things change, the more they stay the same."

As far trance is concerned, the stuff just keeps getting worse. I remember 2006 was decent, 2005 was better than decent, maybe above average I'd say, but this year was just garbage. 96/97 to 2003 still remain the best years for trance especially in the epic/uplifting, and progressive arena. The same goes for prog house.

Instead I found myself listening to other genres of EDM that I've never really paid any attention to before and also revisting a lot of trance classics for lack of any good material this year.

for me 2007 has been mostly crap musicwise. i've found some good music, but most stuff i hear is either fucking annoying or bland crap that doesn't do anything! also i've been very busy with other stuff in my life and now i haven't mixed in like 2 or 3 months even though i bought a xone:92 rotary and a redsound soundbyte xl this summer and i was very excited to get both.
basically what i'd need is more free time and less shit music stopping me from finding the good stuff. i play mostly old stuff anyway though, but i'm getting a bit tired of all the same old tunes, i'd like to find more good new old tunes (or new good ones, but they seem to be quite rare).
also i didn't go see any djs or live shows this year, nothing interesting available that i knew of. i bet there were lots of good nights, but there's really no way of knowing if the djs are unknown to you, other than just going. but i really didn't have time for that or anyone to go with really and i wasn't really interested either.
so in conclusion: 2007 sucked bad and i really hope it'll get better in the future!

I've been listening to older trance and house tracks from the mid 90s and just gave up on trance back in '06 with psy being the exception. Last year I tried to get into the whole minimal/tech house sound but just couldn't stand the whole "pling plong ting pring" techy concept. My favorite label release have been JOOF for the last couple of years and John and the digital blonde have been mostly on point with their own productions and 00db releases.

When I first heard this track play on your set, I was blown away. This is seriously a ridiculous track.

Phil had an album out as well? I'm not making any comments about 2007 until I've heard this one.

Well, not solo but I meant the Long Range album.
