i hear electro bass hits in there, and it's definitely minimalistic (no more than 3 different bleeps in there) ...

seriously, what's his genre?

Most of the tracks I have by him are 4+ years old.

Have fun trying to fit him into 1 genre though...

I didn't know all the different tracks in my CD case were "todays fad"...but keep trying to find some shit about me you can "expose" without having a clue as to what kind of music I enjoy on a daily basis. Would you like to see whats in my ipod right now asshole? I doubt it would change your mind, as you've clearly already made it up on stupid assumptions alone. People who actually take the time to know me understand otherwise...

OMG Clovis is angry, saying bad words! You become part of fads...you deny your past...you experience inner conflict...you swear in the net...are you going through a "teen-angst" phase?

(by the way "teen angst" by M83 is good.)

How am I denying my past when I just admitted to the days when I thought trance took me on "epic journeys"?

Inner conflict? Part of fads?

I think you're misconstruing what I see is a constant searching for new music and different direction with "bandwagon jumping". But again, you've obviously made up your mind about me, no matter what clear evidence I post to the contrary, and so yes, you're going to be called an asshole for it. It's a lot of fun and good entertainment to see you continue blasting your assumptions while conveniently skirting around points I raise...

And yes I do love Teen Angst as well.

Everyone finds something to make their lives a litle better or help them sort out their meanings. Some people do it with music, some people do it with religion, but I say as long as you're not killing people over it what harm does it do?

Go listen to some decent stuff and tell me it doesn't change the way you think about things.

And besides... music should change your mood

mood is a temporary change of personality

which will form habits

if you listen to psychedelic music=you become a deeper person

That is one of the most stupid statements a TA has ever made

But this is why you deny your past (and hence experience inner conflict-a teenage process but can happen in older adults as well!), because you "Admitted that you thought trance took you on epic journeys". In reality you didn't "think" of trance taking you on epic journeys. Trance REALLY used to take you on epic journeys back in the day. Because you want to become part of something today though (fads as electro house or minimal lol)-perhaps have a clear-cut agenda as a dj and a person- you convinced yourself that what you experienced back in the day wasn't real. This denial of past habits (taste)- and bashing of past musical preferences demonstrates a profound immaturity. You said you are not a bondwagoner but just a person whose music taste has developed. The fact that you accuse a music genre (that you used to adore) shows that you are indeed a bondwagoner. If not then you wouldn't show such clear-cut hate against the very same trance-music that you used to love back in the day, and you would appreciate it for what it is-namely just another EDM genre which practically is not superior to any other EDM genre (just another potentiallity in you "Developing taste"). Maturity will come when you accept any music genre for what it really is.

Dr. Petran

I used to like trance before I knew there was other music to be discovered, music that didn't consistently rely on the same formula, the same tired lyrics, and tricks to keep me interested. My tastes evolved, simple as that. I got bored of hearing the same sounds being used day in and day out, the same side-chained bass lines, the same synths and notes just arranged in a slightly different manner. I grew out of it. Big deal. I fully admit to loving trance back in the day and raving my ass off to it. I don't look down on people who like trance as "inferior", I just hope they explore what else EDM and music in general has to offer, and follow the rabbit hole as deep as it goes (and you must know as well as I do that it does go deep).
Also, while trance took me places, it never did in the same way such influential albums (to me) like Fabric 20, Sasha & Digweed sets from the early days, Moby - Play etc...did. The fact is I can still listen to those today and enjoy them just as much as I did the first time (I've actually recently been bumping Fabric 20 on my ipod). Trance, not so much. I can enjoy it for nostalgia purposes, but it is just not good, interesting music to me, and I'm sorry if that offends. I loved it at first because it was so different to what I was used to, (growing up in the US) and I happen to really like rhythmic, repetitive, simple music in all forms (from Philip Glass to minimal techno). Trance was the first thing I found that was close to what I like, but I kept going and didn't stop there thinking it was the be-all end-all of electronically produced music. I did jump on the electro bandwagon afterwards, because, again, it was new to me. But for the past 2 years I've been DJing and playing my own music, not having it spoon fed to me by the DJ du jour, and I really take offense to you accusing me of being a bandwagon jumping trend whore, when this is really not the case. You ask anyone who actually knows who the fuck I am and listens to the music I like and play, and they can tell you the same. I spend hours going through back catalogues, looking for old tracks and trying to get a grasp on all the great electronic music I missed out on while I was listening to hip-hop like a good little American in highschool. Discovering new music is probably what I enjoy MOST about EDM, because there is constantly something new around the corner or under old rocks that have not been over-turned in years.

As for the last statement:

quote:
Maturity will come when you accept any music genre for what it really is.

I disagree. Maturity is constantly challenging your own taste, your own perceptions about music and never sitting on one thing and thinking "thats it, thats the best". Thats akin to saying people should just accept soulja boy and britney spears as "another genre" even when they put minimal effort and creativity into what they do. I would much rather be a snob looking for people who actually are putting thought into their music than some "I love everything" goody two shoes just so I don't offend anyone on a message board, who pretends to like everything.

For the part of Dj mixes taking you on a journey, have a listen to Oakenfold's Goa Mix from 1994.
