I don't think we're evolving, we're all just adopting a pseudo-buddhist new-age mentality in Western countries, and I'm not sure why.
Perhaps it's the decline of Chritianity and its relevance to moden society, perhaps it stems from the deep need for connection as we all become ever-more isolated in our large, distrusting society, or perhaps it's just because this sort of mentality is becoming fashionable again..... but I guess we'll never know.
Now I don't want to become the skeptic that everyone rats on for destroying their perfect dream, but I don't think we need such flamboyant spiritualism to be happy and to live peacefully. I agree with your vision of perfect harmony, but I don't think we need to appeal to concepts like "collective consciousness" or being "psychic" to achieve it. If there is such a thing as collective consciousness it only extends as far as the fact that we, as human beings, are all inclined to think in the same congenital way (when all said and done), and if there is such a thing as being psychic, it only extends as far as being able to know someone so well that you are able to predict elements of their behaviour.
Again, I don't want to be the skeptic. I just advocate the notion that happiness needs to be built on solid, irrevocable foundations (namely the self) not on spiritual, new-age concepts that just might be true. I know that a few of you will disagree with me, and you are welcome to, but here I'm just presenting my opinion, and am not attempting to discredit your views in anyway.
| quote: | | I think you are Wrong. We aren't born bad, Society and culture makes us bad. We are all born peaceful, with no concept of racism or sexism. we learn these things from otheres. It's the bad apples among us that screw it up for everyone, and make us all hate. |
Happiness is a state of mind, and not all are privy to it I'm afraid. What about people with psychological or neurological disorders? And as the human race continues to devolve physiologically (as defective traits are allowed bred back into, and allowed to thrive within, the species) these sorts of disorders, one can only expect, are likely to increase - so how can these people exist in your perfect dream? There are 6 billion people on the planet, and each has a unique mindset. So long as there is humanity, there will be disagreements. All we can to is to curb this conflict into something contructive like negotiation and compromise, rather than something destructive like violence and war.
Humanity will never be united in a common aim so long as free thought is permitted. The only way to achieve the dream you talk of is via brainwashing and propoganda, and I see that as an improper means to achieve any end, regardless of how meritorious it may seem.
All we can do is promote the concept of the betterment of the self - those how can find happiness within themselves are more likely to act with a happy disposition, thus instilling happiness into others. All you can do is act like a good human being (whatever that might entail) and hope people follow suit.
Being a good person in myself, is the only possible dream I could ever entertain for the rest of humanity.
