Too many times the vocals are pasted on simply for commercial effect This is because "ordinary" people like vocals better for some reason on many songs. Probably because they have some way to connect to it by humming, singing along to it wraps it up into a nice little package

its true that vocals can lead to easy commercialisation
good vocal tunes like sarah mclachlan & jan johnston aswell as some lange tunes that were mentioned
bad vocal are when cheezy vocals are thrown on for recognision or cheezy euro vocals that ruin an otherwise decent trance tune
it just depends on how its done and what voice is used
for me, im sick hearing good trance tunes ruined by poxy vocals

oh ya and Ferry Corsten FUCKED up "Punk" by adding that repetitive "Digital Punk" vocal through the build up.

Vocals are necessary for most uplifting tunes...for me that is

yeah definetly...vocals are good sometimes
but i dont think digital punk in punk was a fuck up...

For example...Sothern sun would be nothing w/o the nice vocals

vocals lead to the dark side, young skywalker...

maybe if the "Digital Punk" didnt repeat over and over and over and over and over again

i prefer vocals to be more of a compliment to the actual music. although some tracks that have the vocals as the main selling point are very such such as jan johnston - flesh, paul oakenfold - southern sun. i still prefer stuff like solar stone - the calling, atlantis vs avatar - fiji and many others where the vocals are only another element to the whole scheme of things. rather than the dominant power behind a track.

Personally, I prefer when the beat takes me over, but there are definately some tracks in which I enjoy the vocals. The best vocals are those which get you thinking. The best example of this is that I can think of is

Cass & Slide - Perception (Vocal Mix)

I absolutely love the vox in this song. Very moving, and definately adds to the track, in my opinion.

When I'm on the dance floor though, I'd much rather not have vocals, because people start to pay attention to them too much and not feel the music or enjoy the party going on around them as much as they should.
