Like Eugene said, english prounouncing doesnt match the spelling. This is caused by having a long history of written material - while the pronouning changes quickly, spelling doesnt change all that quickly. Most US people here have read canterbury tales in school - it was written in the 14th century..

This is the reason why people who learn it from books, can usually spell it a bit better than the people who learn it by talking.

(however, this is shared by a lot of languages - depending on when it the syntax and grammar were laid down. There are also languages like chinese where spelling doesnt have anything to do with pronouncing.. )

Ste, you have what you call 'SAUSAGE FINGER TYPING'. You hit about three keys everytime you need to hit one. I find it funny though

Why should ppl type correctly? It's only typing. These days we use TEXT all the time, so we're bount to use SHORT TEXT cos we can't be arsed typing full words, we use abreviations and why not?

It's not really a question of typing as much as accuracy of grammar and language overall. If you've just written a huge post, you're not going to bother reading it over just to correct typing mistakes, it's not a school paper.
Broken english can be cute, but not by a person whose first language is English!

How about:

know / now

definitely / definately

and other "big" words.....I mean jeezz.....at what age do they stop teaching you people to spell?
On the other hand, I know A LOT of Dutch people that can't spell correctly..and you know what bothers me? Since I speak/write so much in English I keep forgetting the Dutch sayings and I mix them up Or I just know what to say in Enlgish but I forgot the Dutch word for it

What a blast

i wud say im 1 of the worst 4 it... but i only do it becoz its quicker... plus alot of the time its colloquial slang, just u guys dont know it as that

for instance, how many people get wot i mean when i say "av a gud un!"?

we english have a right to write in slang!

one thing that is scary is the growing use of english slang by canadians... not that im complaining becoz its better than yank slang

and arse is the BRITISH version of ass. ass is a shit word. arse flows better im gonna start a petetion to ban the use of ass and replace it with arse

Well I'm a trained journalist and I work in data entry. So I write professionally and can sustain typing at 80+ words per minute for long periods.

But I still throw in all the net shorthand .. ur, u, etc

That's mainly because I'm lazy
But if I'm trying to make a point or an intelligent post I'll dot all the I's and cross all the T's
Doesn't stop me throwing smilies in everywhere though
