Correct me if I am wrong here...
Alcohol/Ethanol - Comes from fermented sugars, fruits, yeasts, etc.
Cocaine - Comes from the leaves of the Coca Plant
Marijuanna - Buds on the plant. The plant/buds contain THC.
Opium/Heroin - Comes from poppy flowers.

Obviously there is a little more involved with some of these. But these are the general origins. Heaps of naturally growing things can be classed as drugs. You can buy mushies on the main street of amsterdam over the counter

I wasn't talking about the media representations of drug-abuse (like the herald sun's articles on kryal etc), i was talking about my personal experiences, and my friend's experiences with the drug-crowds at events-- i think the media presentation of the situation is bullshit, but i think it is a bit fucked-- it's true that alcohol can be just as bad, or worse than some party drugs (e, speed, weed etc), but these weren't the drugs i was talking about anyway: i'm talking about the growing use of the harder drugs that are making crowds violent etc (G & ice in particular)

I think people are going too far with the whole getting munted.

I used to do way too much shit, and it just makes you angry and sleazy after a while. At least with alcohol, you can quite easily be within your limits. With uncontrolled substances, you often can get more than you thought you would.

I (now) think meth is a terrible drug, and I'll never go near it or anyone on it again.

Pills I think are fine maybe once every few months (twice a year probably), and only ever one or two (not 5+). I dunno if we have seen the full effect of what pills may do to us later in life, so maybe its better to play it safe......

I have to say that even though I'm fairly young iv seen a lot for my age and as much as I would love to support the culture that says f*ck to the media and drugs aren't all that bad (a room full of people who have done a pill or two is much more fun than a room full of angry drunks lol).
I find that its so much easier for people to become lost and overshoot their limits with illegal drugs compared to alcohol.

And with the whole alcohol has much more reported incidents than drugs, I accept that it is a fair and true statement but I would be interested to see what happens if all these drugs that are currently illegal where as readily available as a VB?

If you can't party without drugs or excessive amounts of alcohol, and enjoy it, then I'd be asking why.

again, i was more talking about not pills, but the increasing use of harder drugs at events--

i agree with you tho, but not my issue...

through my dad i know countless Lawyers, Doctors, Psychiatrists, Engineers who smoke weed regularly and are perfectly functioning members of society. 9 out of 10 scientists agree Alcohol and Tobacco are the two most dangerous drugs in the world

my mum works at concord hospital, the amount of people she has to look after that have had their esophaguses cut out and their stomachs stitched up to their throat so that they can only eat pre chewed mush for the rest of their life because theyve had too many ciggies is disgusting (just one of many cancers this hard drug causes). these selfish ******s are putting billions of dollars of stress on the public health system (much more than the tax revenues for cigs collect) hooked up to life support so that they linger on with zero quality of life when the plug should be pullled and ciggertes made illegal.

i realise you can make the argument about pot smokers with cancer aswell but weed isnt full of the chemicals that ciggeretees have (and consequently the repurcussions on the body arent anywhere near as bad) and ive met quite a few dim witted stoners in my time but never have they smoked the equivalent of a pack a day

ps. not condoning hard drugs like ice or heroin at all, that shits just as fucked up

not disagreeing, and since this thread appears to have gone off topic, here's a rant--
it's rly hard to know whether tobacco & alcohol are worse than pills for example because the legal substances have had extensive studies done, incl long-term ones exploring it's effects: no such tests exist for pills: in 20 years we could all drop-dead- could be slowly poisoning us etc...

edit: that was a big edit...
the diffrence is massive with recovery services between the drugs for sure (from care for long-term smokers, as you mentioned, down to drunks who take up hospital beds at nights in emergency just cause they're wasted)
back to festivals tho: with the od's at kryal, who took up the entire hospitals repiratory machines (who the fuck has less than 10 machines?? XD)-- this also caused a large waste of tax-payer money: think they wanted richie from hardware to pay for the bills

I'm not going to argue with the lack of extensive studies, duration, etc. however what I don't understand is for the drugs (tobacco/nicotine and alcohol) that we DO HAVE extensive research about why they're still widely available and not classed as highly dangerous to society. It'a definitely not in the best interest of the general public that these things can be bought over the counter anywhere with valid proof of age.
