i think that if anything is going to sustain trance, its going to be goa/psy. that genre/genres have always been, to me, the least concerned with commercial sucess. theres a HUGE dedicated following and lots of underground stuff as well. also one thing i really like about goa/psy is that for the most part the kicks and bass timbres are exactly the same. the standard tight kick and the sh-101 bassline take away the effort of having to make the "perfect" kick and bass sound. then the producer can focus on the actual song and not get obsessed with the production aspect and whether or not his kick and bass are sounding like such and such DJ's latest production. thats not to say that theres not a certain art to using the typical psy kick and bass, just that it provides a very solid groundwork for making good music over top those two elements. aside from the kick and bass goa/psy is typically least concerned of all trance genres about achieving a specific sound and allows for a lot of experimentation by the artist. im not the end all authority when it come to EDM so if your going to get a boner by flaming me for stuff i said and get a rush out of [trying] belittling somebody, then f off. otherwise lets keep this discussion going.

I actually know a guy who calls 'Lauschgoldengel' prog-trance just to make sure he hasn't left the trance bubble while listening to this.
I know that guy to, his name is Az

Also, I laugh at people who keep saying trance is gonna die every year.
It isn't. Plain and simple. Theres enough kids and enough new markets for it to keep going for another 5-10 years even with the lowest possible quality standards imaginable. Yeah it will get worse and worse, tired ideas will continue to be recycled, but so long as Armin, PVD, Tiesto etc keep marketing themselves as SUPER MEGA DJs and play in 5-10-15 thousand capacity stadium events to thousands of clueless kids, trance will always have an audience, always sell enough CDs and always get the most votes in DJ Mag.
The rest of us who like good music can go see excellent DJs at small intimate venues and have the time of our lives...I don't see trance getting in the way...

what is "new, fresh"? new and fresh is listening to different kinds of music...
my advice would be to deliberately listen to tracks/producers/labels you've never heard before
precisely, looking for a savior will not help you guys

Guess what, I don't give a fuck. If you don't like it don't listen to it but fgs don't waste your time writing stuff like this because people (such as me) who happen to like Trance aren't going to give a shit. Just because you jump on the 'trance slating' bandwagon like most other people doesn't mean that I respect you enough to change my musical tatses. To people who like Trance still (believe it or not Mr Romero, but they do exist), this article - like the rest of them - won't make any difference to anything; whilst the people who have moved on from Trance for the reasons Mr Romero stated in his article (anticipating some slating at this I want you to know that I have nothing against these people); will simply nod thier heads and agree. Great achievement Dennis Romero.
It is not the fans, the DJs, the venues, the culture or the music itself which is killing Trance music, it is people who overanalyse everything in a record instead of simply listening to it. Its people who write articles like this slagging off everything under the sun which is related to the Genre. Im not denying that Trance can be 'cheesy' and 'commercial', neither am I denying the problem (that most definately exists) of formulaic and sometimes tacky music coming out of the Trance genre (however this does happen in the whole Spectrum of music) - what I am doing is pointing out what I think is doing the most damage to trance. Not people like Tiesto or Armin Van Buuren, but people like Dennis Romero.
Stereotypical trance cracker response. Bravo

The arcticle claims trance is trendy... what is this 1998? All the big ibiza clubs are doing electro/minimal/tech whatever now. Also I haven't seen a commercial trance track in the charts (uk charts this is) since about 2003, it's all big room electro house and house, same thing all over the ministry annuals and clubbers guide cds etc. I don't really see how people can be labelling trance as super commercial when you look at any digital download site chart and it will be devoid of trance.
