Doesn't this just mean that Warner, who currently supports both formats, is now going Blu-Ray as of this summer?

Aren't there still other major players on the HD-DVD side, like Universal, Paramount, Dreamworks, etc?

ok check the ammount of titles that WB has, the ammount of exclusive distribution rate to Bluray now just went to 70-30

WB one of the oldest studios with the biggest catalogue going Bluray only...everyone is following. Toshiba already knows it. They are already looking at other things, the HD-DVD project is pretty much going to die. Go on Ebay and see the ammount on HD-DVD players dropping, they are going for not even 100 bux WITH movies.

It is over, trust me, and thank god, now I can just focus on one friggin format.

100bux with movies? Why are you surprised? They were selling them for 100$ brand new with 7 HDDVDs for free.

HDDVD just cost less thats why its the better choice. Image wise both are identical.

too many layers in their corporate structure, they have to fuck up their products with so much bureaucracy. case in point, their mp3 players could have taken off, but b/c they forced wma/atrac codecs, they basically gave the market to apple

Picture quality wise, HD DVD is better than Blu-ray

According to the breakdown on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD , that is just not possible.

They both use the same video codecs and resolutions, but the maximum bitrates for both audio and video are much higher for BD. Unless they screw up the encoding for every disc, BD has the potential to look better than HD-DVD.

The only feature that HD-DVD, specs wise, has a lead in, is the frame rate. HD-DVD can do 30fps (NTSC), while BD does a max of 25, which is the PAL standard. That would certainly be detrimental to the original look of North American TV shows which are then ported to BD.

from www.macrumors.com - supposed to be a 2007 marketshare graph, updated to be color-coded according to studios supporting a particular HD format.

also, funny thing about a press conference by the HD-DVD promo group that was planned at CES that has been cancelled based on the Warner Bros. announcement.

should be just a matter of time now before this goose is cooked.

Actually, Blu-Ray has a LOT of companies behind it. HD DVD only has Toshiba and Microsoft as their major backers. BUT, HD DVD is cheaper to manufacture, and has cheaper players out in the market. And this might swing the porn industry to HD DVD. Whoever wins over porn will probly be the dominant player, which was proven before by VHS over Betamax. Betamax was a better format, just like BluRay is now, but the pron was with them.

And there is definitely a Huge difference between upconverted 480p (Standard DVD) vs 1080p. If you say otherwise, I think you haven't seen it for yourself yet, or weren't using the proper equipment or setting.
