Cocaine is detrimental to the heart because it interferes with the heart's conduction. It also causes vasospasm (when the blood vessels spasm and constrict, eventually causing tissue death) and occlusion. Increased heart rate alone isn't enough to cause a heart attack. Well no...that depends...but for simplicity's sake, we'll just say it isn't.
