One point Alje missed is, even to bring in smaller names, to barely get 30 people to go see a name as big as Menno, even with promotion, it's hard to imagine being able to offset any cost, even just the cost of flight (nevermind any dj fee and/or hotel if required) for smaller, lesser known DJs.
Also, for those making comments about Blueprint, yes, it's working now, but lots of promotional groups have tried things like in the past. The only one that springs to mind that had any similar success was Arpy and Vivid Sessions. Like you mentioned, regularity, having a regular venue, time and date, all help. Knowing that there's always going to be music there, and having that stability, be it a big name or some kicking locals or nationals, is a definite plus. But unless the support continues and is consistent, some way or other, it will fail otherwise. Be it the club owner finds another avenue to make more money (top 40 always sells in this town), or the support dwindles, or the club owner doesn't make enough, or the promoters don't make enough to even break even, etc etc etc.
You ask for opportunities to prove yourself, well, keep showing up to events, bring your friends, fill these clubs to capacity, promote these things around at your work or school or in your social circles. If club owners see edm events as being profitable, it will make it easier for promoters to find venues, venues that are not only great for the audience but great as an experience in terms of presentation and music and overall quality. Thus far club owners have recognized that edm related events or residencies/regulars have had rollercoaster support, and they look for long term deals to insure they can pay their bills and make money, and what has always sold in this town is what gets their attention. Prove them wrong, go to events, and things might just change.
