Good point about the software, but both books do come with a demo version of the Waves Diamond bundle, so you can follow along as long you finish the projects within the demo period (30 days, I believe).

This is exactly what I was looking to do (I made a thread about it about one month ago). I'm kind of getting ahead of myself I think b/c I don't plan on turning my attention fully to hands-on production until September of this year (i.e., once I have completed my M.A. program at school). When the fall comes, however, I'll be out of school and would be very, very interested in finding someone (or a number of someones) to 'take me under his/her wing' so-to-speak and show me the basics. And yes, I am in the GTA (Mississauga (Mavis & 401)).

Perhaps I'll see about a few of those books you guys mentioned in the meantime.

Ok than. I should have some time down the road.. So You could probably take the go train, or drive here, and I can show you the basics. We can do it some saturday.. since I work mon-friday. I use cubase + software and hardware synths. If that's what you wanna learn, let me know. I know other software as well but i don't use it..
