I started off playing instruments till about the age of 18. At that point i had this incredible almost nausiating urge to get laid. I figured trying to get it on with girls that are about as close to being comatose as you can get a relatively great idea so i started hanging out in the washrooms at raves chatting it up with anyone that was unconscious.

I got into production to make music but mostly turn my bedroom into something that would impress girls. After about 5 years , i got real bored and went back to more traditional music. Now i write music that has clarinets and shit.

I do not consider myself a musician or producer. I am an engineer by trade. I am more of a technical person than anything else. I believe this is why I find myself drawn to this kind of music. I grew up on Erasure, Depeche Mode, and anything in the 80s and 90s that came close to sounding as if it were done on a keyboard - I still love the keyboard opening to A-Ha's "Take on me" (first thing that came to mind) - maybe that's a weakness and it definitely shows my age I absolutely love Trance music due to what I perceive as perfect technical bliss.

I believe I have somewhat of a 'knack' for the music, but I know I have tons to learn on the artistic side of things. I oftentimes question if I've outgrown the music since people much younger than myself are the typical listeners of it. I'm a little old for the 'scene', but I can't help but listen to it and try my hand at producing it. It's rather hard to explain........can anyone relate?

A Musician because i play all my notes on my synthesizer
I hate drawing notes imho your not a musician if you draw notes instead of playing them

A Producer because i make my music alone from start to end
And i make thus produce the song

So if you make your music all alone then your a musician, producer
If you in a band and your the technician or engeneer as i was in my former job
Then you record all the tunes played by other artists and make a better mix
Then your called the producer on the cd aswell
At lest i was mentioned like that Engeneer, producer

But imo we should stick to what the wordt means
Producing is creating
We create songs thus we are producers
Thats why you see the lable owner their names at Producer
They finance that the recording gets build
So they are called the producer as they make it possible for you to create
If your a musician that depends on if you can play your synth or you draw your notes inho

But i hate it far more if say so you are a dj
Because i make music
Djs only play records that other people have created [produced]
So being a dj and being a musician,producer are 2 totaly different things
Being a dj is relatifly easy compared to creating your own song
You simply use the tallent of good musicians and dont make anything new
I like djs since they set a mood by playing their choice
But the credits for the crowd feeling good are for the musicians imho
Nowadays the djs get all the credits just because they play OUR music
Thats a bit sick if you ask me
But hey those noobs dont know they just like to dance
So who cares who made the music as long as they enjoy it

When I stated that I am an engineer by trade, it is an engineering field totally outside of music. To be honest, the music is really just a passionate hobby right now. Maybe one day, when I learn more and get better, I may be able to make little money off of it. But, my main income (as I see it now) will always be from my engineering skills.

I don't play anything hardcore anymore like I used to, but I studied violin for 12.5 years, symphonic trumpet for 6 years, jazz trumpet for 4 years, piccolo trumpet for brass choirs for 4 years (that was intense), trumpet in drum corps for 4 years (high school), mandolin for 1 year (only for fun, celtic stuff and bluegrass). I mean I can still pick them up and play whatever, it would take about a year to get my old chops back for trumpet, and a few months to get my finger agility back for violin.

In fact, I still have some recordings of a couple jazz performances from back in 2005 if anybody's interested!

but then came college. I do miss those old days sometimes...but now I do EDM (prog, getting into some chill and breakbeats these days) when I can!

so yeah I don't know if I would say I'm a musician nowadays but I would say I used to be definetly at least an amateur musician

Yeah I've "solo-ed" with orchestras but it still seems like no one pays any attention to my instrument when a face isn't behind it. It's incredibly depressing that ppl continue to attribute the cello to classical music, and fail to remember its presence in other genres as well. Pray tell me, how the hell am I supposed to market myself???

If people does not pay you attention when you are playing an instrument, but when you delight them with your face, only makes me feel you dont have too much to express or talent with your instrument and that's why people dont pay attention to you?

When someone has something to say with an instrument, and he, she does, people listen to it, the cute face is only a bonus, just ask to Yo Yo Ma or Janos Starker, they are not pretty.

Yourself our your instrument?

The question is, what are you more worried about, to expose/market yourself with the cute face and the model thing, or your music?

I dont tell you this in a negative way, but, I think you should meditate about what your priorities are .

Being you, I would stop caring so much to market myself, and would just focus to enjoy my instrument, but that's me, and no, I dont have a cute face like you, but, my mom says I am cute .

How can you expect fellow musicians to take you seriously when NONE of your myspace pictures have anything to do with your music? Why does every picture of you contain some kind of attitude and you pursing your lips like a damn guido?

How the hell are you supposed to market yourself? Have only a FEW pictures of you PERFORMING.

It is interesting, the distinction between music labels and popular culture labels. You can generally tell the difference. If a label only seems to sign good-looking new artists, then you can be pretty sure it's a popular culture label. (I'm talking of new artists here, not old artists who became famous before music videos hit the scene).

If you want to look at attractive young things and occasionally hear some good music, go to the popular culture labels.

If you want to hear good music, and occasionally look at attractive young things, go to a music label.

A lot of us don't have the luxury of choosing. For us it's music labels all the way!
