Oh, and the songwriting process for dance music is usually something like "Hit keys and twiddle with knobs and envelopes at random until something sounds neat. Elaborate from there."

Generally, focus on making a killer 16/32 bar loop or whatever, then build the rest of the track around that. That's the way I do it anyway

Yeah, especially those by Scooter!

Oh, and this thread needs at least two more things:
1) The Tiesto video.
2) The Sean-Tyas-Choon-Program-Pic.

Well, a lot of the so called minimal, electro and "tech-house" artists nowadays have it made. All they have to do is get on fruity loops, make a bunch of dings, dangs, bleeps bloops and burps (it doesn't really matter where the song is going) and some moron out there is going to like it.

At least it's a good way to make some extra cash if you need it.

easily one of the most idiotic things i've read in some time.

isn't that joke old by now?

Oh, and like I've already said elsewhere, Minimal is made by dropping a cat on the keyboard.

Why does everybody slate minimal? Have you people actually listened to much of it?

Highly unlikely that any of them have at home, and even less likely they've gone to see a "minimal" DJ or rather a DJ that plays minimal t00nz.

Also, if it's so easy to make minimal (this is to you Chadi and the rest of you that SERIOUSLY think its super easy) lets see the record deal and "all the cash", then we'll talk.

That's what kills me about people who say minimal is "easy." If you actually listen to it closely, there's quite a bit of engineering that goes into all the little "bleeps" and "pings" and other little sounds. I'm sure there are people out there cashing in on the "minimal trend" with crap productions, but that happens in any genre...

Yeah, that argument has worked so well before.

Exactly.

The fact that Chadi mentioned Tech House and Electro House too is quite funny, since Tech House can range from more proggy to more electroish-dirty to very deep and SUPER mnmlz/techy.

So I suppose prog, deep house, mnmlz and techno are super easy to produce also. t0t4lly l0g1c4lz kekeke.
