In a presidential election he wouldn't win moderately democratic states like NJ, PA, or Michigan. McCain is moderate enough to carry those states, and i don't see him cutting into any red states. there aren't enough black people in the red states to overcome the deficits the dems normally run in those states.

I think rather than speculate whether or not he'll carry moderate states for the next 9 months, I'm just going to remain relatively quiet in that whole discussion and then just ooze with smugness come November.
That, or wallow in embarrassment - but hey, I'm an optimist.
I'm a dem and i'm getting scared by all these socialist policies being spewed out by both hillary and obama. my allegiance is with hillary because i think obama is serious about it, and i honestly believe hillary is talking the socialist game just to keep up with obama.

Obama would easily take New Jersey - he hasn't set foot in either PA or MI yet though, so I'll reserve judgment. The interesting fact about this election so far is that of voters in the Democratic primaries who decided within a month of their vote, Obama leads Hillary 63-37. The more face time he gets with voters, the more support he gets. That is rare in a candidate.
