state college/altoona

for the most part, i only get to play house at the beginning of the night and maybe a few tracks throughout the night. then its hip hop and pop when the people start coming in. once i reach full rate at UPS, i'm gonna give up the top 40 gigs and do one or two nights a month in larger cities on the east coast playing good music.

i love tech house and techno. carl cox is my favorite. i'd love to put together a set like his, but i have yet to find a club in PA where that would fly. i was hoping to get some leads in the northeast from this thread....

Oh man, Foundation is closed?!?

Weak-sauce, that was one of my favorite clubs - I'd definitely have given an arm and a leg to play in there, just loved the vibe of the place. Very, very much like Spybar Chicago.

Shame to see it go. Really had a good time up there.

Quick summ of Denver:

Clubs - Prog house, rap/r&b, and surprisingly, 80s/retro. Style: Quick cut and slam in. Some take their time.. maybe to the 32nd frame.

Venues - Prog house/trance, basic Electro, DnB. Style: They definately try. Still hear short transistions and too much EQing.

Our clubs (house parties) - Prog/Dark Electro/House/Deep Trance. Style: I personally spin Prog/Dark Electro. Everyone else is Prog House/Deep Trance.

I rather stay home, throw in what Im feeling, and enjoy a few brews .

Were you around 4 years ago or so? From like 2002-2004-ish they had Release at Bar Bleu in State College. It was a varied EDM night where sometimes you'd get some tech-house and techno. It was a lot of fun. I moved from State College to Denver, CO in Jan 2005, then from Denver to Philly in late 2005, so I don't know what's going on since then. I heard something about a "Club Love" opening in State College, but I guess it wasn't the same.

By the way, there's a bunch of tech-house/techno events in Philly. Here we've got a good range of music. We don't get any big names very often, but you can find most any genre if you look.

Denver is similiar to Tiesto. Was good back then, now it/he sucks.

The only reason why its getting worse: The crowd is getting younger (too young!). The talent isnt really here anymore either. Half assed DJ's get booked, and they rape on the cover fee (lately, $20+ for DJ's I have never even heard of). I hate paying so much for a DJ to experiment/practice, and thats what it seems like these last few years.

Denver was once alive. Ive been partying since Babylon 1. Thats when Denver remotely had a name.

Yeah, that's unfortunate. When I was there, I was all about clubs like The Church and Vinyl...I saw some really good DJ's there...Ferry Corsten and Satoshi Tomiie were some of the highlights. And the local dj's that opened for them were really good as well.

Interestingly, I moved from there to Philly, and Philly was much better then too. They had a really good big club that lent itself to big room style music, but it closed and the scene seems like it came down with it.

Dont get me wrong, Ive seen some excellent shows! Micro, Armin, Zabiela..

Big name DJs rarely make their rounds out here. And when they do, we got too much shit goin on. Back in Cali (SF Bay), DJs were coming in and out nearly every day. I can only assume East parties like us West folks

Electro is big in Toronto right now, but i can see it fallin off in a few months. Techno, House and Breaks are still mainstays of the scene here in my opinion.

It really does suck. That club was the corner stone to the Minneapolis EDM scene IMO.

The vibe was always great in there, cover to get into a show was so cheap usually ($8/cover for Luke Fair!), but this could've also been their downfall. The ambiance and sound were also top-notch.

It seemed to be the only club in the Twin Cities AFAIK that was completely devoted to EDM or Underground Hip-Hop.

It really is a shame.
