Kind of like 13 is considered bad luck for westerners.
Same in Korea and Japan. Maybe in Vietnam too.
My anguish when I visited my godmother in her death bed is because she was on the 4th floor... unlike 13, which is just unlucky in European tradition, 4 sounds like "Death" in Chinese, so it was a lot more uncomfortable.

If I have to have a four, they should too.
I didn't know four was generally considered as a bad number by all asians, I thought it was only the case with Chinese people. The case with both Mandarin and Cantonese is, that if you pronounce 'four' slightly different, it sounds like 'death' or 'dead'.
The number eight is a lucky number for a lot of people because it rhymes with a word that means 'prosper' or 'wealth'.
Chinese people are very superstitious. There are tons of 'rules' which I don't even know about. Once I gave my friend a funny deskclock for his birthday, he laughed so hard at me after he opened it! Turned out that if you give someone a clock, it means you wish them the death.
You also shouldn't give someone shoes for his/her birthday, can't remember the 'logic' behind that one.
If I am the storm, if I am the wonder..
Will I have flashlights, nightmares and sudden explosions?

Hah. Ironically (especially for me), four is my favorite number.

I know you should always give plants to hot asian girls. That means you want to root them
But, you know, this "4" thing is actually quite funny. My girlfriend once bought a cup set for tenth of its price, in Japan, because there were four cups.
