honestly, how many times have they threatened or gone on strike in the last 5 years? Seriously, if they had all these issues with their deal why can't they put them on the table all at once? They look like greedy union fat cats now, and I don't think anyone has sympathy for the ticket collecter earning a bloated salary for sitting in his/her fat ass all day.

What I don't get is that there are so many other ways to get what they want. TTC is an essential service. Why doesn't the union just instruct all their drivers to refuse fares? The customers would love it and they would still be sticking it to management.
they could do that and also run in skeleton mode while running minimal service. they also don't have to wear their uniforms. but striking is so much easier, although it doesn't get the public on their side at all.

i believe the problem is more related to the people running the union and not the individuals... as an individual when the union leadership is offering you bonuses and saying to vote no so that they can get to bargaining on it - why would you refuse?
how does one go about changing the leadership of a union when it is not properly representing the best interests of its membership?
/i really dont know

I can easily find 1000 people in Toronto who want to watch tokens be put in a box for 50% of the cost of the current TTC staffers doing the job.
If they don't want to work for what they're getting - send them home.

Isn't that what america has been up in arms about for years now with H1Bs and such? come on, seriously

So what, we should pay token watchers $60k + pension/benefits? NO way.
Replace them with machines like every other city in the world.

+1000
seriously most systems dont even have fare collectors anymore. Keep a few at designated busy stations for information purposes (although in toronto the answer is "bloor or yonge line" so its not that complicated) and get rid of the rest.
