I SOO AGREE!!!! Don't worry, when the top 100 list for 2002 comes out i can guarantee you guys that Diggy, Sash and Tenaglia will not be in the top 3. My bets are that PVD, PICOTTO and TIESTO will be the top 3 for 2002..

you have GOT to be kidding!
i can't believe anyone in the electronic music scene would say that.. this is a typical comment some hard-rocker would say, never expected it out of a trancer.

trance (which i love) is probably more "druggie" than progressive, since rushin on an E is not as nice to progressive.

i think progressive is an aquired taste, as it's very deep and subtle and sexy, so if you're 16 you may not be ready for it yet. i used to hate it years ago, but being older now, i trully apreciate it for what it is. and as far as your comment about wanting the "old sasha", well, it's never going to happen because he's progressed (no pun..), and you should open your mind and get with the show...

im 21, and i hate it.

i really dont think its some right of passage, that once you "grow up" you begin to like types of music. to each their own. people also told me (and probably you) that you would grow out of trance too.. but that hasn't happened either, right?

hahahaha....no no no, not what i wanted to get across at all
i had the same comments made to myself about how i'd outgrow trance... well i haven't and now i spin it (and progressive too). what i was trying to explain is that trance is *much* easier to accept than progressive so younger people tend to listen more to trance than to prog. how many 16 year olds know oakenfold vs. how many know klinenberg or lawler or pappa?

since progressive incorporates many different musical elements, one must know where it's coming from. to know where it's coming from, one must be better educated, musicwise. do achieve this "education" requires time and experience, so one can deduce that once you get older you get into more sophisticated forms of music, so in a way, it is some sort of a "right of passage".

please don't take my comments the wrong way, i am not putting trance down in any way (or why would i be here in the 1st place..?)

Hehehe, my boy's got the point... and I can agree with you on that one too! Me, being a hardcore trancer and not even understanding the progressive/house music at all a few months back, I can say that by allowing myself to learn about this music, opening up my mind to it, I just achieved this level where I have as much respect for progressive trance/house as for the usual epic/uplifting/hard trance... Shite, I'm even getting into deep/funky/tribal house.
It's all about the open mind... now, whenever I see someone dissing trance cuz they like house, or vice versa, I just try to resist the temptation to kick them in the head for being so ignorant. And that is what I'll do in this case, just move along, and forget about this thread.

Oh yeah, I seriously think that you were kidding when you mentioned that you expected PUNK to be played by Sasha & Diggy... first of all, it is a completely different style of music, they are pure progressive DJs, and even tho I didn't get into their set when they were in Toronto a month or so ago, I still respect them for being unique and original, and for not spinning all the tracks you'd expect every other DJ to spin. As a matter of fact, I got so bored of that PUNK song, it's not even funny anymore... all the resident DJs are killing that song over here, and then whenever a DJ from Europe shows up (AVB, Ferry, Jules, etc.) they have to drop that song too! Like fuck, somebody change their playlists, for Christ's sake... it seems that every trance DJ these days plays the same shit. Where has all the uniqueness and originality gone?

fantom & Maxim:

hmm.. your statement, that its easier to acecpt trance, may be true, but you cannot say I have not developed a taste of music, and style.. I have been listening to trance...eh pretty much since the day I discovered it even existed. I guess thatd be in year 2000.. and its just bloomed from there... this was my first event; and the punk thing --- it was meant like (c'mon sasha and diggers play a good track) but lol obviously you dont like it much

your statement that what I said, how do you get into it; you thought would be a statment froma hardcore rocker.... wtf?!?! onyl hardcore rockers were getting into it.... it was just REAL fuckin loud boom boom boom... and you say trance music is druggier!?!??! if their progressive has no good synths but is just drumms and bass basically varrieng patterns.. how could a less complex type of music be considered more non-drug than one that is complex. wouldn't you think that if a music had no real depth, you would need drugs to get into it??...proggies depth comes from time... but why not have complex music and time?!(trance)

I dont know if I'm making any sense... anyways it was my first event; and trust me age had nothing to do with it... it will definitley not be a taste aquired with time

hey, first of all you have been insulting sasha and digweed for playing music that they don't spin, they wouldn't spin anything near a tiesto, armin, pvd ect set.. Thats like saying Marco V spin a shitty shit there wasn't even 1 ambient tune in there!

If you don't like a certain gerne of music don't try to insult the people that listen to it simply becuase it isn't in your taste. Do you want people that don't like trance to think you must take e to enjoy the music, simply because they don't understand why you like the music?

they switch on and off. they don't do 2*4s . The crowd loved them there arms would fly up and people clapped to the beat. At the end people were going crazy trying to see if they would go longer.

anyways just my view

No it's not! Sasha has been known to drop trance tunes now and then. Lately more then than now though.. @ Alexandra Palace 1-1-1999 for instance he played tunes like Libra - Calling Your Name, Paul Van Dyk - Love Stimulation and Armin - Lost Soul Society.. Tunes some would call cheese, especially compared to Punk..

Maybe you should have familiarized yourself with their new style. As Sothis pointed out, you were dissapointed because you went in expecting trance, but most people who went in knowing what to expect (ie. Progressive House) like my friends were utterly blown away by their performance. They told me it was one of the most amazing experiences of their lives. So go figure! I'm not really a big fan of Progressive House at parties, but some people, like my friends, obviously love it. I think it just takes too long to develop and there isn't enuff parts to get people really partying and pumping their fists in the air... But really it's a totally different mentality, which I, like you, don't really have the patience for when I'm partying. I prefer listening to Progressive House at home where I can really sit down and listen to it carefully and really appreciate the skill that goes into it. I just don't think it makes for the greatest party music. I have however heard some Progressive House/Trance sets that were quite energetic and had more builds that have really impressed me and got me moving, like Max Graham and a local tagteam duo named Bajwa and Dale Anderson.

and as far as their DJing skill goes it seems to be based more on their mixing and beatmatching abilities. Progressive DJs often have two tracks beatmatched playing at the same time for over 2 or 3 minutes, which is VERY impressive. But the problem is if you're not into Progressive then you're not really gonna notice, now are you? Whereas Uplifting Trance DJs are lucky to beatmatch two tracks for 30 seconds. That's the main argument that fans of Progressive make is that Uplifting Trance is too easy and basic to spin. DJs don't display the same skill and flow in their sets because the mixes are so quick and the changes are more abrupt. That's the thing about Progressive, if you're listening carefully the flow is impeccable and you usually can't even tell when the tracks change, whereas in Uplifting Trance it's pretty damn obvious. I agree that Sasha and Digweed are two of the most talented and skillful DJs in the world for their mixing and beatmatching abilities, but they just don't play the type of music that gets me (or you and many others) moving and partying.
