Got mine at xmas and as some peeps on here would tell u (prob Luke ) im not bad on me dex still learning evryday, but i only spend about a few hours a week on them atm due to school commitments but when i done my exams im gonna practice like about a million hrs a day and im gonna be well good!

As for other people, yes it takes as long as it takes. Some people pick it up instantly and others take a number of years, just keep at it

If this is true, you could sell your secret and become the richest man alive. How do you manage to get a million hours out of 24?

hehe well ive only been at it about a week or two now and the beatmatching is still fucking pissing me off i get so frustrated at time i have to just leave it and come back later take a break or im gonna hit something lol out of a 60 minute set though that i decided to record the other day and i thought you know most of my transitions wern't THAT bad i was like yeah that was ok listening to the tape again though... oh my god i sucked so hard beats out everywhere you just dont seem to notice until you actually hear yourself back i think i think out of that 60 minute set i managed one oh yes 1 dj tiesto style transition lol and that was a fucking easy one when theres that big breakdown in green martian industry... and i just slammed in the opening chords of flight 643 orkedia mix i have to say that came out choice and i could hold industry in there with that background kinda instrumental for about 30 seconds so it was pretty good and flight 643 kicks in just as it goes so im proud of that and i think its those little achievements wthat keep you goin

it took me 1 year and a half to publically release my first mix i was satisfied with. now it's been for two years, and i'm getting better

i think, that to go out in club on ANY day and spin automatically, without any major mistakes or anything like that would take 5 to 7 years of regular plyaing in the clubs.

I've been spinning since November 2000 and I ruined the first 6-7 months of it, but I didn't know it right away... I wanted to make a mix cd after about 4 months so I picked out like 7 tracks and practiced them over and over for 2 months before making the cd. the cd came out well, but when i got new records after that I couldn't beat match for anything.

I think watching another dj spin at a party or club, not showing you how to, but just watching what they do, is a great way to pick up on things to help yourself improve; probably the best aside from playing and enjoying it.

Well I only took less than 5 months with 1-2 hours a week to get 'good'. That is beatmatching with eq cuts, proper pattern mixing, etc. etc.

Its always BEST to read on the net about beat patterns, eq mixing, etc.
You can learn A LOT from this and therefore making it easier for your self. At this stage you will at least have a basis of what you are doing...
Also listening to prof. DJ's mixing is very helpful.

cheers

I've had decks for like 2 months practicing 2-3 times a week and I can do a set with no major stuffups and on a good day no minor ones either. I'd say another 4 months till Im confident enough to get a job.

Well, I've had my 1200's for about a month now. I've been practicing about 10-14 hours a week (about 2 hours every night) and can beatmatch pretty good (including matching bass/measures/sections). I can use the pitch control only with very minor hand corrections.

My problem is fader control, eq'ing, track selection, and crowd reading.

Of course it is easy for me to pick up beatmatching cause I've been making music since 1991 and I've mixed on the computer for a couple of years.

I feel that in another couple of months I will be ready to play at some small parties. Yeah!!!
