its all a matter of personal preference. most dj's use both methods. i've seen dj's mix track way out of key and still make them sound good.

i think harmonic mixing improves the quality of TRANCE sets much more than other genres.
having repetitive songs with the same key could become boring though so making the variations from one key to another is just as important as harmonic mixing.

I use "Mixed-In-Key" and I primarily mix out after the first major break down in a song, and I always cue up on the first beat.

I was using mixed in key for about a month or so. Something about it didn't feel right. It felt like I depended on the key chart to determine what tracks I would need to play and in what order. I believe it's better to rely on your ear to pinpoint that one track that you know would make a great transition and would destroy the dance floor.
