I support the ones I like by going out to their shows/etc. I won't go out to see an artist "simply because they are Canadian and I want to show my support" - I also need to like them too.
However, even for artists that I don't like, but make it "big" on the international stage - I do feel a sense of pride to know that Canada has some good talent that's making an impact on the rest of the scene/world somehow.

Heres a question to all those that think "They are local/canadian hence we should stand by them regardless"
I really want to know how many of you that feel that way support artists such as:
Avril Lavigne
Shania Twain
Sum 41
Billy Talent
Nelly Furtado
Brian Melo
Finger 11
Celine Dion
i support music i like. not local talent or the small guy. if his music sucks his music sucks. and out of all those ppl u mentioned above i will say only nelly furtado and finger 11's first album should be mentioned as decent music.
and shania twain is hot.

Liam, you forgot to mention Sarah McLachlan. My favourite export from this here talented country.
Oh and that Bryan Adams guy has done pretty well for himself too.
When the debate moves from the music itself to where the producer/artist is originally from, that is no longer relevant IMO.

i couldve mentioned delerium too
but the point im trying to make is that theres alot of local/canadian talent that we dont neccesarily have to support JUST because they are from here...as compared to the way people have been trying to get others to support several electronic artists here whether they are good or not
As for supporting Canadian music: I think people who stand by them regardless of their content are morons. My brother was obsessed Sum 41 because he went to school with a few of them and the drummer grew up across the street from us. I always found that annoying because he never even listened to punk music before and wouldn't listen to any other.
If they aren't your thing then they aren't your thing.
