I love the opening track! This has to be the best opener you’ve used thus far. Rich, warm, and ambient all rolled into one. It’s a shame Solo must end, but you’ve done a nice little fade into the Moshic tune which wastes no time in getting down to business. Though darker, the track is full of melodic goodness, and the vocals add a nice touch to this particular track. Mona Kea comes in with a nice, strong kick and some melodic “quirkiness” for lack of a better term. This track retains the darker, moodier atmosphere of the mix at this point, and it too makes good use of the vocals.
Now we can hear the melodies of Chill AM creeping up and slowly taking over – nice, smooth mix. This is a brilliant tune, and it really shines. The “twinkling” lead stands out, and I like the bass work on this track as well. I enjoyed the mix into Friends. The lingering sounds of Chill AM slowly give way to a “brighter” sounding Arthur Deep track and fade away at the right time. I’ll have to depart from your description here, mate, as I can’t say that I find this one to be melancholic, personally.
Reincarnation slips in next with that “dirty” bassline, immediately catching the listener’s ear. Friends hangs around long enough to lead us into the meat of Reincarnation. I love the echo effect used on the lead early on in Reincarnation! Simply massive. Excellent breakdown on this little number, too. But for all its atmosphere, the bass work just shines on this track and rises above the other elements. The Mango treatment of Campfires comes through next. The mix out was a bit quicker here, but that may have been to avoid clashing melodies, as Campfires gets right down to business. Typical Mango warmth and melodies in this track! Nice, uplifting little stabs throughout.
Green Destiny takes over next with some quirky sounds followed by a funkier, chuggier bassline. A lovely lead then begins to build before taking us down into the break. And oh my what a break it is! The track explodes after the break, full of melody and bass work. Would You Like To Go creeps up next. I love the vocal work on this track. This is simply a monster tune! The spoken vocals carry the listener away, especially when combined with the guitar work during the break. This is one of those “tune of the mix” tracks, easily.
Smooth mix into Mango’s next tune, which opens with some “teasing” synth work and Mango’s signature warmth. There are some nice builds in this tune, and it retains the warmth throughout. Definitely a “headphones tune” if you want to fully appreciate this gem. Great mix into Deliver Me (I must learn to mix breaks), which comes out dark and heavy sounding compared to the Mango land we just left. The low end really hangs and looms in this tune, and the vocals are well done. This one explodes after the break! I love how the low end work in this track just seems to rise up and tower over the listener.
Can You Feel This builds its way into the mix now with a quirkier, dirtier sound. You can tell Mango has touched this, but this is a little darker than the bulk of Mango tunes. The repeated vocals are well done, and the percussion on this one is beyond your standard kick. Another smooth mix into Neon. I love how the vocals from the previous tune hang around long enough to get the listener into Neon. Neon builds into a nice trancer with an excellent, urgent lead. You can tell your friend “nice work” on this one. Great melodic work on this tune. Nearly hypnotic at times.
Nice transition out of Neon. Don’t Know Any Better comes in strong and wastes no time in getting down to its “dirty” electro business. The lead here keeps the sense of urgency you started in Neon, I think. Good builds in this track, and it keeps the mix moving along nicely. Michael & Levan put their take on Train of Thoughts, next. This track is a little bit of everything – dark, brooding, twinkling. A very unique track.
Bat Kol picks up the pace, pushing us into the final act of the mix. I love the subtle little lead on this one. But I have no idea what kind of instrument it is! There’s some great percussive work here as well, and the driving bassline moves the mix along nicely. Nice mix into Talyo, which has a great kick and a great lead. Excellent break in this gem, too. Combined with the chanting, all the elements work together here to make a stunning track as we continue with peak time.
Paroxetine slides into the mix next, and right out of the gate you can tell this is going to be a great trancer! Strong lead and bass work. This one just washes over you and really carries you away. Hypnotic break, then it assaults the listener with explosive goodness all the way into New Style, which comes in with a massive kick. This track just pounds away until the break, introducing all sorts of quirky sounds along the way (but that’s psy for you, right). What a great, uplifting track.
Great mix into Sunshine Flowers to close, and it is indeed a perfect closer. Love the guitar work on this one. Takes us down nicely. Another great Windmill Sessions, and a great showcase of some of the talent that’s out there today. This one showcases all sorts of tracks, from deep, dark, and moody prog, to lush ambience, and even a little psy. This mix explodes during the middle and during the last half hour. Outstanding work, mate.
