Well, it's fantastic that you're so knowledgeable on how the forum should be run. Have a chat with Del, I'm sure he'll appreciate your advice on how to increase site revenue.

I'm not sure if you were paying attention before, but this forum has always been full of stupid and repetitive questions. That's why we made the FAQ and Tutorial threads in the first place. If you're so sure that the quality is sinking (and frankly, I don't agree) then why not contribute a few quality threads of your own instead of bitching?

the problem with this forum in general is the nature of production. what advice can you really give someone with production except basic advice?

the mang has a point.

i've had less and less productive interest in the internets as the years have gone by. i know what an eq, compressor and synth are, so most tutorials are useless; it's just a matter now of building exp points, so i can level up. i have no doubt that most here are the same. i pretty much only go online to read about new gear or pwn noobs for lulz.

sound design and samples will never get old though. perhaps this forum should be more about sharing resources etc.

Pretty much. If you ask general and vague questions you will get general and vague responses.

I really like helping people out because I get the chance to review and summarise what I've learned and I'm one of those people that believes that if you cannot explain it to a complete laymen and have them understand it then you don't know what you are doing or what you are talking about.

At the same time, I'm tired of writing step by step tutorials where half the responses are - can you post the .flp file pls?

Its like: are you even bothering to learn anything or do you just want us to make the tunes for you and release them in your name? Come on, throw me a bone here...

Good call Anthony.

Between everyone there are some valid points, despite the arguements

There probably has always been noob q's, but having even just 3 sub's would be good, especially for sound design and/or tips and tricks.

I too have noticed as Ive learned more I skip through the noob q's as I no longer need to know about it, unless I contribute.

Indeed also some posts need moving i.e. that oakie one, so thats a job for mod's.

I know you mean, but if you look at forums like gearslutz, the knowledge offered is really advanced, and stays there but just moves on to new subjects, while also catering for noob-ish questions at the same time.

The thing is that the music we make is at the cutting edge of technology so there will always be something new to discuss. Look at what people were making dance music with 10 years ago, and even though a lot of the principles of production have remained unchanged, the technology, genres and techniques have drastically evolved.

To got back to mt original point, this thread shouldn't even be in this forum.

Diginut, I've been around long enough to have seen this forum go through various different phases - and yes stupid questions have always been posted, but why not point out that there are problems? After all any forum is only as good as it's members, and the mods that control it (or lack of).

I think there's a certain point where you graduate from this forum. Once you've mastered the basics, there's really not much more to learn or discuss here. When you reach that point, you will find less and less topics here that interest you. I still check this forum daily, but most days I don't see any threads that I want to view.

I'm more interested in the business side of EDM, labels, beatport, ect; and there's not many topics like that here. Every EDM production forum I've found is pretty much like this one, lots of newb questions. This is still the best one though. I wish there were more advanced topics here. I don't think anyone is to blame for the lack thereof, it's just the nature of the beast. I bet there is less traffic here lately, but every forum experiences that eventually.
