i said in the last post as well tho-- even tho some tracks in his set aren't PRODUCED by him, they're all stuff that he WOULD produce, if he'd thout of the sound first
it's not like he's really playing random stuff- he plays his sound, which is one type of sound. so tho some aren't his productions, they might as well be... if that makes sense..
makes sense with Sander too, since a lot of people are mimiking his style atm..

sander tune
sander sound-alike
sander tune
sander sound-alike
sander sound-alike
sander tune

etc

A lot of producers cant actually play an instrument. Which is pretty amusing when you think about it. Therefore the musical aspect of a Live performance generally gets lost. Most guys that play Live now, just tweak the fuck out of the synths / loops playing in Ableton off a midi controler. When Cosmic Baby played Live [ at the Palace ] - he played the actual instruments in front of the crowd.

I think in order for a Live performance to be interesting for a lot of people, the tracks played should sound like a complete remix... where the crowd feels they are getting a spontaneous UNIQUE version of the tracks they like - just for them.

totally down with scottsburn and dean0s on the live stuff... gets a bit "samey".
listen to a lot of an artists productions and they have a trademark sound in 95% of cases, and 60 mins of this same "trademark sounds" will get a bit.... sameish?
DJ = Disc Jockey
FJ = File Jockey (ableton) still smashing out tunes, track selection, so long as its good, i dont care how the person is delivering the tunes.

After playing around with ableton for the last few months the idea of watching someone play it live really diminished the magic.

Just to play your tunes you have to warp EVERYTHING at home before you play, it pretty much just eliminates beat matching for a DJ and gives you more control over manipulating the songs structure (through making loops in a gui over cdj, or jumping to different points in the song seemlessly). But by doing this you can create some interesting mashup's and remixes while playing live.

Having said that it's a fantastic tool to make sets at home as they will always be perfect tempo wise giving you more time to concertrate on other aspects (i.e. above & beyond, armin etc...).

I think I would still prefer to watch a producer slug their way on with vinyl and cdjs.

Fuck I love Mongoose but his sets are incredibly fucking boring these days. Digweed however, is entirely different story....

Back to our initial discussion, wasn't there a party a year or two back called Alive which mostly consist of Live acts? Maybe Bill can fill us in on that one?

I saw flyers for the second one b-live a while ago, bill knew nothing apparently...
