possible. there is a crackhead that lives right next door. no, seriously. im outside smoking a cigarette and i see him walking up to me and he goes "man, my mouth is so numb" so i kinda just shrug, then he takes out a crack rock from under his tongue, so i throw my cigarette away and walk inside my house.

he's also tried selling me bike wheels and all sorts of stupid shit before. he's stolen a christmas decoration we had outside our house one year. he's sold his parents dog like 4 times.

the kid is nuts and actually kinda scares me.

Myra: Only if they are jacked into your tap (the thing in the yard or street) would you be affected. Otherwise it will be fine.

PS: I used to work for a cable company.

it is on a splitter, and i have already tried replacing it. no luck. the heat wasnt being generated from the splitter, it was normal temperature when the jack was hot. i think we have 3 total outlets active. one downstairs and two upstairs. only the one upstairs is having trouble.

the problem also again happened last night. i had it unplugged for a couple hours, then plugged it back in to watch some tv before bed, and after about 3 hours the reception just got really shitty. you can still kinda make out whats on tv, but its really snowy, and the screen moves up slowly, etc. i checked the connection and it didnt feel hot. so i kept watching tv with shitty reception as i was about to fall asleep anyway. then the reception got even worse, checked the connection and it was heating up a bit. so i unplugged it and went to sleep.

im kinda worried that my house is going to burn down or something. when i unplugged the coaxial cable yesterday the first time when it was really hot, there was a spark. kind of like when you plug in or unplug something from a socket really quick.

cable company is coming out friday...

Most houses have a cable control type box in the closet of the master bedroom or outside the house somewhere. The cable tech could probably figure out what the problem is from either of those spots without having to rip open the wall

That said, the upstairs and downstairs of a house are usually wired independently, so it's possible for the rooms upstairs to have problems and not the rooms downstairs.

i wonder where that control box is... i also really just wanna take the coaxial jack off the wall myself and see whats behind it, maybe its just something loose, but i figure eh, ill wait for the cable company to do it.

Yep, proubly the splitter. Usually when they start going bad the outside gold covering wears off and you see the flat almuninun finish.

the tv is not the problem... the cable modem is not the problem... the splitter is not the problem... there is no cable box. its from the wall coaxial jack --> splitter --> back of tv & cable modem... thats it.

my best guess is the problem is the internal connections of the coaxial wall jack. something has to be fucked up there. my tv reception and the internet connection is fine, until the wall jack starts heating up, then the reception and internet connection go. the reception on the tv will go slowly and just keep getting worse until finally its just snow. i guess thats when the damn thing is heating up to extremes where the signal is getting distorted thus causing the reception problem.

ive replaced the cables... ive replaced the splitter... but that doesnt matter anyway, because the splitter never got hot. only the coaxial wall jack and the end of the coaxial cable that was connected to wall jack.

I think you got it right then. The jack itself can be dead too. They should replace that when they come. Or you can save yourself the hassle and time, and run down to home depot and get one yourself. They are really easy to fix. They usually are just couplers. The jack is like $2.00

I am telling you it is nothing but a coupler. The coupler could be bad, and therefore causing problems. The jacks literally are just 2 of the things you screw the cable onto back to back. Like a 2 sided bold really. Take it out now, and check it out.

edit//it is literally the pic below but in a wall plate.

okay... so what i did was removed the coupler... and placed a splitter in between, since obviously i dont have an extra coupler laying around. the reception seems to be better, and obviously the internet is working right now, but when i wiggled the cable coming out of the wall, the reception gets kinda shitty.

ima leave it plugged in like this and see if it heats up. if it does, then i guess the cable inside the wall has to be replaced.

Yeah. If that is the case, the cable guy will ONLY do external wiring. A rare few will do wiring inside the wall, but that is VERY rare. They usually tell you to call an electrician.

well wow that would be gay. im about 50 mins in with this new configuration and its working fine so far. *knocks on wood* thanks for your help!

i hate to hear the shit about the electrician crap though. for about the past 3 weeks, the light in my house has been flickering. like it dims down for a few seconds every couple of minutes. some fucked up shit with the wiring in the neighborhood. we called the power company and they sent someone out, but never told us anything. we called again wondering why they hadnt stopped by. they told us they had stopped by and that we needed to call an electrician to come fix the problem. we spoke with our neighbors and same shit with them. they had two different electricians come out to their house at $200 each without them even doing anything. both electricians told them the power company had to come fix it. but because we live in a community, the association has to call the power company and have them come out. wtf?! so now we're on the associations ass to call them but so far nothing has happened and basically i just wanna kick everyone in nuts.
