definitely. first thing that comes to mind is free jazz or any "avant garde" style of jazz where it sounds like the group is just fucking around with their respective instruments..

also some could argue that one john cage track (i forgot his name exactly) 4:33 (and the title as well) or whatever is technically beatless.

So you guys are defining "beat" as a measured, rhythmical time signature, rather than the actual noise of "a beat" itself?

I define "beat" as a short, sharp percussive sound - not necessarily in a syncopated pattern, though usually.

By the first definition there are very few "beatless" tracks.

By the second definition there are hundreds of thousands.
