I just personally would like to see a trance artist come out and be able to play an instrument very well...because that's what music is all about.
I've also thought what if there could be a whole new breed of emotive dance music that isn't quite as monotonous as trance, but has ever-changing notes and chordes that don't repeat so frequently. The follow a more jazz musician style or a classical music style, but still stands emotive and artistic.
I don't know...it's just a thought..and it's probably possible. |
It's called Intelligent Dance Music. It's my favorite genre of music. I got into this before i got into trance, and this is why i only HALFWAY like trance... I got spoiled on IDM!!

Yea, my favorite is stuff by "Orbital"
I like a lot of the older electronica too... Kraftwerk, Vangelis, tuff like that..
You know, a lot of electronica STARTED OUT as what you describe...
and there are plenty of modern people keeping this alive. Look for stuff by "Shpongle" and some of "Aphex Twin" (he is a big trance dude, so you all know him really well, right?). Also, "Jean-Michel Jarre" and "Tangerine Dream"... And if you wanna know some other early electronica, try "Wendy Carlos"..

it can take longer to write an 8 minute trance track than it would take to write a 4 minute rock song

What the hell are you guys talking about?
First of all, don't compare pop music to trance. It takes 500 times more "musical talent" to write a trance song than a pop song. People that make trance music not only have to write the song themselves (which is much more complex and complicated than a pop song), but (99% of the time) produce the track as well. Pop artists... umm... they write down some lyrics that mean absolutely nothing, string them together, get some broad with a brutal voice to sing them, and then stick a couple of chords in the background. Then this "song" ends up in $100 000 studio and someone else masters it. Is this musical talent?
No...
Oh, but they do live shows, so all of a sudden, they have musical talent?
If you want to hear musical talent go hear the symphony, or a jazz band, or something like that. Those people have talent...
