You're making two bold assumptions. The first is that it is a waste of time to BPM and Key tracks when it takes less time to do so than to listen to the entire track once. I'm going to make a bold assumption myself and assume that you do listen to tracks you buy/steal/whatever at least once. The second is that your ears mix in key for you. Maybe they do but it would be a lot faster if you keyed your music and understood just a tiny bit of music theory to help program your sets instead of having to playing all of your music together to see which songs go well with each other and then having to remember that or having to cue up a few tracks before you find one that sounds good. It is akin to figuring out a mathematical problem using algebra as opposed to guess and check. Another point is that you don't always have to mix in key it all depends on the music you are playing and how you want to mix it. It is just another tool available to the DJ like the channel equalizers or faders, etc... and it would be foolish not to take advantage of it. You make it seem like it limits you or wastes your times but really it opens up more opportunites and saves quit a bit of time and work. At least tha is all I've ever found it to do for myself and the other people I know who make it a habit.

"Programming" simply refers to arranging music into a set. It can be live or pre-programmed. I think you're misunderstanding the terminology.
