i tend to skim quoted text, but i briefly read it.
this is not about middle class white people, noone is saying obama doesn't receive support from middle class whites. the appalachian demographic is certainly not middle class; it's lower and working class - specifically poorly educated. also, i did not see anywhere in either article saying that obama is doing well with lower-working class white people. another thing, rural certainly isn't synonymous with lower income. So to say obama is doing well in rural areas is totally missing the mark. For example, Vermont is very rural, but it certainly isn't low income and the people for the most part aren't poorly educated.
